Thanks for the replies both. Heather it was my first time down there. I just walked up the hill from the pond, I passed some stables and went through a large wooden gate onto Scotland Lane. My other half is amazingly patient with me!

LY - That is the Southern entrance to the Bramhope Tunnel on the Harrogate Line between Horsforth and Weeton stations.

Hi

Few pictures of what i took yesterday from Yeadon tarn and multiflight. Sorry for the image quality as it was a gloomy day and had to use a lot of zoom on most of them

Lovely set of pictures 'channex 757', thanks for sharing them with us! The pictures taken from Yeadon Dam provides an interesting angle. I might have to give that a go myself sometime. :hatsoff:

I see you've had a go at hosting your pictures here too. Did you find it easy enough to do?

Channex 757,

Thanks for some lovely photos - I like the jet2 holidays 737 - I can't help squinting at the bird and with some imagination it looks like an approaching fighter jet!!

Had a few bitters Bob? ha ha (CS)

I'm not sure where Yeadon Dam is, is it a part of Tarnfeld Park? It looks good for the approaches.

Yeadon Dam (Or Tarn) is located just West of the Airport and slightly further towards the Rwy 14 end of the runway.
The Rwy 14 Threshold is just next to Yeadon Tarn, so can be good for a few shots, however a lot of the tree's and greenery is over-grown and I believe that was at the request of the Airport itself!

Thank you for the comments

Yeadon tarn isn't far from the cemetery. If you go past the cemetery as if you are heading towards Yeadon, it is about 100yds past there on the left handside. There is a car park there. I is good for getting aircraft on approach to RWY14 but departing is a bit of a problem as the trees get in the way

Visited the Chevin today to get some pickies. I've been waiting for a clear day to get some pictures of the airport. Today seemed as good as any but the ramp was a bit sparse.

Always been a bit perturbed by the slope/hillock on the runway - does this have any impact on the operational capabilities of the airport?

The Horsforth end of the runway is more or less flat, but there is then the downslope that is visible in Aviadors photo. The main problem with that is that landing aircraft sometimes tend to drift down the runway when landing on 32, because as they drop down towards the runway, the runway drops down too, resulting in aircraft sometimes taking a little longer to touch down, and so using up valuable runway length. This is even more of an issue if its wet, still more of a problem if its wet with a cross wind, and worse still if the aircraft is large or not particularly brilliant at braking (eg the A321).

Otherwise, I am not sure it makes much difference. One day hopefully, the touch down point can be moved back to where it used to be, nearer the Horsforth end, where there is no downslope. Sadly, as others have already posted on here, its not that straightforward and again very expensive. Perhaps if the airport increased the drop off zone fee to £5 they might afford to do it one day!! ;)

Nice picture Aviador.

How did you get to this place? Do you tirn left at the traffic lights as if you are going from the airport down the back road to Otley, then turn down the first left on that road. Also is there a car park or a lay-by there to park your car?

Thanks

Going past the airport industrial estate, up the hill, first traffic lights turn left onto otley old road, continue down along the chevin. You will then come to a left turn onto York gate. In the royalty pub car park you can sit in there. However you will need to park across the road a little down the road on the right

It was taken from the view point where the cross usually goes in Easter from the top of the rocks. Otherwise as EBC-S9 has directed. ;)

Here's my attempt of a night picture of LBA from the Chevin. Unfortunately nothing was on the approach at the time so I was unable to capture a light trail of a landing aircraft.

Very nice photo Aviador.
Following mode 1's comment. It's hard to believe that the 32 end is flat.
The 32 end is 647ft and 14 end 673 ft.(approx) however, the 32 touchdown point is about the same height as the start of 14.

As wawkrk states the TDZ elevation is only 12ft different from 14 and 32
14 - 674ft
32 - 662 ft

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
