I flew Manchester to Cardiff yeas ago, but I can't remember the carrier .
Most likely would have been Air Southwest or Air Wales.
If this century would have been Air Southwest (Dash 8-300s) that operated a NQY-CWL-MAN route for a year or so before axing it. Air Wales didn't operate to MAN from CWL.

In the early 70's I flew Dan Air -BOH-CWL-MAN, HS 748. Wanted to get to Leeds but nearest point was Manchester!

I think that the last airline to operate from LBA to Cardiff was Capital Airlines. At the time, the route did well using a Shorts 360 300. Unless I am dreaming.......

Yes it did do well because the aircraft did LBA -GLA - LBA - BRS -CWL -LBA - GLA - LBA - BRS - CWL -LBA - GLA -LBA each weekday so the through traffic topped up the point to point stuff. Also just proves the argument that frequency helps, and at times where a day return was possible too, albeit not a long one for the two southwest airports.

MAN-CWL was operated by BAC Express Short 360's for a while, though these were ticketed as Manx Airlines (Euromanx) flights. Jetstream 41's served the route using BA flight numbers prior to that. I used BA7682 / 7 back then (G-MAJD / G-MAJI), and MXE7682 / 3 (G-CLAS) with BAC Express "Rapex". Timeframe 1996/7.

Manx also operated Glasgow - Liverpool - Cardiff for a spell too, think it was an Shorts 360, can't exactly remember now.

The announcement of Scandinavian regional airline Wideroe commencing flights from Liverpool has caught my attention. The previous SAS half arsed attempt at serving Leeds was never going to work from the onset. I do wonder if Wideroe have considered Leeds ops, or whether they would in the near future if their Liverpool service is a success.

Would that BrownAir could be reinvented!. Having travelled back and forth to Oslo/Fornebu when they did LBA- Fornebu in the afternoon and LBA/Frankfurt in the morning at under £100..... The flights were rammed, but sadly when Capitol came along they were dropped. Oh, capacity? About 7 - my family and large oilmen usually! Ah well!

They used a Gulfstream 1 after the Cessna 404 you flew on. They grew into Capital and ordered the Short 360 which was considered too big fo

Wasn't it the BAE146 that was considered too big for them?

How different the aviation scene is today compared with back then.

G-MOXY wad replaced by Gulfstream 1 G-BRWN for OSL and FRA. The first Shorts 360 to arrive for Capital was G-BNDM. Also operated were G-CPTL, G-OLBA, G-OLTN, G-OLGW and G-OEEC. The two BAe146s were G-OSKI and G-OSUN. A BAF Viscount was chartered for a while to op the LTN to DUB and BHD flights but can't recall any reg there. Hope that brings back some fond memories for some of you. It certainly does for me. The airline itself was solvent at the time of its demise. It was the debts of the parent company, Brown Group, that brought the airline down. The business model of the airline was working very effectively and who knows where it would be today had it survived.

This is all nostalgia to me are there any rumours relating to any new routes or airlines at LBA? It all seams fairly quiet - so we are either out of luck or the new management are busy behind the scenes- let’s hope it’s the latter and we can look to the future of new or reinstated routes

It's not hugely off-topic. If you read back two or three posts you'll understand how it ended up where we are.

To answer your question though I don't personally think we'll see anything new for a while. The new management will have a job on keeping what they've got let alone attracting new airlines and routes, as much as we'd all like to see them.

Cape Verde would be great and well within the remits of LBA. Surely an airline like Jet2 wouldn't need too much encouragement to commence flights there. (I prefer not to say give it a go as it suggests starting a route comes at no cost to an airline)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
