Re: Potential Routes

The A330 should be able to fly direct to MCO unrestricted from LBA. I don't think we will be seeing Virgin operating from Leeds though.

Orlando

Orlando has to be a target destination for for LBA.

Another one for the destination hit list must be Dubai. .

We know these are target destinations for the LBA marketing team, as the following is on their routesonline marketing page (full details copied and pasted from routesonline into the LBA overview thread)

UNSERVED ROUTES/KEY MARKET OPPORTUNITIES:

Top 12 unserved routes from LBA are;

* Orlando / Florida

* New York / US

* Dubai / Gulf

* Toronto

* Frankfurt

* Madrid

* Zurich

* Copenhagen

* Oslo

Re: Potential Routes

i got a repy today;
Tony Hallwood has asked me to drop you a quick line to thank you very much for your email suggesting a number of proposed new routes/destinations for Leeds Bradford. It is kind of you to take the time to write and your feedback is most welcome.

We continue to work closely with airlines on the development of their route networks from LBIA, and where route opportunities are identified we make every effort to encourage the appropriate airline to operate it. The current trading conditions and recession has impacted upon airlines ability to introduce new long haul services in these difficult times, but all of the destinations you propose are either in the process of being evaluated or are already being discussed with a number of airlines.

We share your desire to ensure the flying needs of the region are met locally and not by other airports. Unfortunately I am not able to share with you any positive developments on the introduction of more long haul services, but can assure you that if and when a new service to any of the destinations below is secured, the marketing of such a new route will be far reaching.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

Yours sincerely

Thanks,

A pretty generic reply if im honest and one i was expecting. It does no harm, i grant that but im sure someone is trying to get these routes. I personally would like to see them too, btu if the airlines are not willing to operate them, LBA is only an airport, it has to do the job of attracting an airline to operate it, and if they cant, no route will arise.

Idealy, my first five routes to attract would be;
1) New York - Continental - Boeing 757-200wl
2) Frankfurt - Lufthansa - Airbus 319/CRJ900
3) Dubai - Emirates - Airbus A330
4) Orlando - Thomson/TCX - Boeing 767/Airbus A330
5) Toronto - Air Transat - Airbus A310-300

The recession has hit airlines real bad, and I wouldn’t expect to see any major announcements - not until the terminal has been built anyway.

The above wish list is interesting and very achievable too for an airport like LBA. Having daily flights to important hubs with vast connections would open up the Yorkshire catchment, i would imagine the management have spoken to the above mentioned airlines. If i was a betting man i would say if we were to get these routes then LBA to DBX on EK would be the most likeliest IMO.

For you far end bucket and spade destinations i.e. Mexico, the Florida Keys etcs.. i think your best bet would be Jet2 - Meeson needs to diversfy what with Odreary setting up shop, they need to widen their their product because they wont be able to compete with the EU LOCOS on low cost travel.

Re: Potential Routes

Well if LBA is struggling to gain long haul routes they should not forget about going for in the meantime short haul routes.

I'm sure there is still lots of places that that Jet2 and ryanair and the charter airlines could fill in the gaps.

eg. Warsaw, Budapest, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Madrid, Reus, Valencia, Zurich, Greek Islands and so on......

Runway 32

Your post wasn't removed it was placed into here to prevent forum sprawl. If Easyjet come to LBA then we can add a thread for them then. :pleasantry:

Re: Potential Routes

The 'dreamliner' or the new A350 will be needed for some of those routes. I think I'll add the same survey to this thread so see what kind of a response they will be getting.

Re: Potential Routes

I have completed the airport survey. I more or less ticked everything and added a few more for good measure. Can't see me winning the return flights though. If I did I will be sick as I have just paid for my Jet2 tickets to Mahon next year!

Re: Potential Routes

4 Potential Routes that i would like to see when we have the New Terminal Extension in place, are Toronto Canada once opperated by Wardair B747s, Orlando Florida, Dubai and Cancun Mexico all very good Holiday Destinations. I can think of many more but i think they would be achievable from Leeds/Bradford Airport.

Re: Potential Routes

They are all listed on the airport survey so obviously they are also thinking of them britannia

Re: Potential Routes

Sorry to everyone that voted here before but I have had to re-start the poll. The problem has been sorted so I would be grateful if you could re-vote.

Re: Potential Routes

I wonder how many people picked Florida, Toronto and Dubai just because they are high profile destinations, not because they actually want to fly there.

Re: Potential Routes

I certainly picked them because I think that there are plenty of people who would like to fly to those destinations, although I am not likely to do so myself (although you can never say never!). If NCL can manage a Dubai, with a lesser populated catchment area, then I am sure LBA can, correct aircraft types etc permitting, and since most regional airports have Toronto, I think it is high time we got it back again. It used to do OK when we had it before. Florida speaks for itself and it would be interesting to know how many LBA catchment area passengers fly there from MAN or EMA each year that could/should be able to do so from LBA (again subject to aircraft types being available to use the LBA runway).

Re: Potential Routes

Hello Everyone!

Im a long time lurker and this is my first post. Great Forum by the way.

Im an engineer who happens to fly to the states quite a lot (usually about 13-15 times a year) and i fly US from MAN to PHL or sometimes CO to EWR. But i connect to all over the states (Tampa, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Boston, Columbia, Atlanta) and i would find a direct service to hub say, New York or Chicago incredibly usefull. I believe demand is there, my company for example, is based in Leeds and sends engineers all over the world and especially the US and im sure there are plenty more employers out in the Yorkshire region that do the same and would love a direct flight to the US from LBA.

Driving to MAN at 5am to get to the front of the queue for check-in every other week is starting to get annoying!

My first post, be gentle!

Re: Potential Routes

Welcome to Forums4airports Ravmanlba. Many people will share your frustration at the lack of a US service from LBA. I don't know why it's such a big deal getting a US route. You would have thought it would be easy enough to fill a flight between say New York and Yorkshire with a good split of Yorkshire and American passengers. I hope some day we will be discussing the inaugural scheduled flight to New York or New Jersey.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
