I beg to differ with your comments on this. London Heathrow is a major airport and has many options for travelling across the world and I get their is also European Airports and airlines that can be used aswell as you’ve mentioned however there’s places that you can travel direct from LHR that you can’t from many European competitors (Australia as an example) and the fact they still say the route is suspended does raise questions on weather they will come back or not.

I know we can’t have everything we want but it’s just my take on it.
All true, but the fact is that no-one is going to fly onwards from LHR unless the airline flying them into LHR has a code share or is a member of the same alliance as the onward carrier. I personally think BA would be the best carrier to fly LBA-LHR simply because they and their One World partners offer the maximum number of destinations.

Ever since BA closed their BHX base, they have been on my 'no fly' list. If I have to travel to LHR to fly, it wont be with BA. As for getting to Australia from BHX, that's easy - Emirates (I've done it)! Or, even Air India via Delhi. And if Qatar re-start their BHX service (they have requested double daily slots for an A350), all the more choice. Who needs Heathrow?
That depends on people’s choices.

Which BA had I believe. And that will not have helped Flybe when they did the LHR route.

BA are bookable as domestic connections to a few non oneworld carriers as well - virgin comes to mind amongst and I think that was a requirement after the BMI aquisition.

Connections were pretty much essential for the LBA route. Regardless of timings it would always be second fiddle to the train service which is typically very frequent and reasonably priced. I think most people would be booking connections on one booking. Self connecting on separate bookings is a minority sport, usually done by some of us who sometimes take the risk.

Sorry, I meant to say second fiddle with regard to point to point journeys.

Linking to recent comments on BA there are reports of flights from Newcastle being cut in this weeks timetable changes. This could mean 2 things one that BA are focussing in on LHR or perhaps they may use them at LBA as a very outside chance. My gut tells me the former my hope is the latter!

There's competition from FlyBe, but I cant imagine it's a serious threat given lack of codeshares.

Absolutely no reason why FRA and also MUC wouldn't work for LH from LBA but think we perhaps need to keep this all in perspective and compare apples with apples. Using EDI as a comparison is an apple vs a pear. But overall we have some positivity doing the rounds just now

I would say after FRA CDG is the most needed route, obviously to be operated by AF.

Whilst I agree we possibly should be posting this in Route Development thread and not Flybe. Maybe the usual xmas wishlist needs to go in the R D thread!

And I was including myself of being guilty of probably posting in the wrong thread

Now we are comparing apples to apples and is why I said FRA and MUC should work for LH. Unfortunately BE arent at DUS any more, unless they are preparing a return. Let's hope we have more to come from them as perhaps @lbaspotter potentially hinted a few days ago
If only they based at LBA. So many route options from here with no competition on most.

I hope you have all had a good Christmas? So now is the time for me to share my ful list of new/returning routes I would like to see at LBA, hopefully in 2023 but at least in the next 2 years. The list starts with what I see as the most likely and ends with the least likely:
Newquay - Flybe or Loganair
Southampton -Flybe or Loganair
Aberdeen - Flybe or Loganair
Reykjavik - Play
Heathrow - BA or Loganair on a BA code-share
Frankfurt - Lufthansa
Paris - Air France
Munich - Lufthansa

On top of the above some NEOs from Jet2, more MAX from Ryanair and the return of the KLM 737s on the mid-morning AMS would possibly put some icing on the cake

I agree, but being greedy as far as LBA is concerned, I also want Madrid and Lisbon, Dusseldorf and Oslo. I don't care who flies the routes, as as long as the timing and frequency gives them a chance of success.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
