I have heard Ryan with 5 next year plus speaking with Monarch engineers up to 4 based next summer

What i do find amazing is that soon as people start the rumour mill going, people come out with what they would like to see and not expectation or reality. Ryanair will not base 5 aircraft here firstly where would they park overnight? Move everyone else around the stand area. Dont' think so, Jet2 already park a plane on the taxi way overnight. Its crowded as it is and i don't think Ryanair will want to take the risk of aircraft being moved around early morning.

As for monarch, their summer schedule has being released and as this year, it is TWO aircraft and not FOUR. Monarch are a very reserved airline, so i wouldn't imagine them doubling the aircraft here. Three maybe.

This expected announcement will no doubt be something like a few more Jet2 routes. I have heard mention of Almeria in recent weeks so who knows.

I would like to think that Ryanair could give us some new routes, such as Hahn, Charleroi, Skavsta, Torp or Bratislava...(sorry, that's Frankfurt, Brussels, Stockholm, Oslo and Vienna).

could it be new routes with a plane operating a W route from another airport? as opposed to a based aircraft which may have to park in long stay car park way things are going

LBA management are well aware of the restrictions caused by the current number of stands. I asked the question previously regards increasing stand numbers and they did confirm that it is something that they are planning for. No doubt at all it will be included in the Development plan and I would imagine it will be the first thing to happen. I would think it could be done as early as 2014 too.

However, LBA management are equally aware of the periods during the day when LBA is still too quiet, with all its based a/c away. It is during those periods that they want to get more movements, so the ideal scenario would be new routes operated into LBA by foreign based A/c. Same impact on the airport without the additional parking issues overnight.

is there any current or potential routes that maybe could be done on an overnight perhaps leaving LBA 8pm and getting back say 8am then maybe a 10am Balearics/spain before doing another overnighter

Turkey perhaps? if i recall thomas cook, think it was TC, used to do something similar to Antalya, think that is how you spell it, where that aircraft used arrive back between 3:30am - 5am then left again at 8am for a trip down to the canaries.

Inter European Airways used to run overnight flights doing exactly that. They used to depart LBA at around 23:00 to places such as Tenerife or Larnaca and return at 07:00 within the old nighttime curfew restrictions.

just thinking of a based or part based aircraft that wouldnt have to be parked at the airport overnight when there isnt space and can have its downtime during the day when theres space for it to sit

I very much doubt many airlines could make flights work that leave the UK 20:00 onwards for leisure routes. Thomas Cook clearly couldn't make the night flights profitably work from LBA, no one wants to fly then.

I think the best option as mentioned would be using non based aircraft such as Ryanair are doing and also Jet2 are doing with their late morning Alicante flights next summer.

Having Vueling & Air Europa doing W patterns too and from Spanish destinations sure would help & so would Wizzair too and from Poland! I guess we can dream!

I disagree with you on this one LBIA. I flew from Newcastle to Zakynthos last year and the flight went at 23:59 on a Sunday night. The flight was rammed with probably not more than 10 seats left on the 757. At least 6 other Thomas Cooks flights from the UK arrived there at the same time, so night flying must be popular with some punters.

Jet2 have just announced Kos and Reus for S2014, so that could've been it.

That's old news. It must be something else...assuming of course that there is actually something else!!

Im going to say that the route news will be Ryanair.

They are just starting to release new 'winter' routes (TFS from DSA and winter routes from BOH).

Liverpool is also due an announcement from a based airline (so LBA has something in common).

Therefore, 2+2=Ryanair in my books.

I know it mean potentially more
passengers but wish it was something a bit more exciting than Ryanair.

Yes, what he said. Humberside gets an SAS connection to Copenhagen, and we get another Ryanair. I know they are popular and do well but I find it hard to get excited about another Ryanair destination.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
