Good news for the airport sometimes when these routes are announced I think crikey will that actually work from DSA but the only Wizz routes that have ever been axed from DSA have been no fault of the airports.

Good to see another new Wizz route to DSA

Budapest cut from the end of March. Not good, all the good news DSA gets like TUI increasing is hit with bad news in some form. Flybe and Wizz dropping routes or bases.

At least you still have Wizz! They have proved to be a proactive trustworthy and largely reliable airline from Doncaster airport. Maybe Budapest just doesn't work for them so far as DSA goes but at least they tried it. There's plenty of bad news floating about at other airports so I wouldn't single out DSA as being any different or more worse off than other airports. The Brexit situation is still far from clear other than that fact that we are leaving the EU. There is still a dark cloud over our future relationship with the EU and the continued uncertainty wont be helping the aviation industry.

I agree with all the comments Aviador has made. The fact that Wizz are pulling the route must mean that is isn't working for them nor do they expect it to improve because, after all, they are now the only, I think, Hungarian airline and to pull a route serving their Capitol must have taken much thought and involved much swallowed pride.

The route seems to do well from LBA so there is a market from this part of the world so I suspect that even though the prices seem reasonable the timings are the problem. Budapest is a great city to visit (stayed there three times and loved it) but I wouldn't want to arrive late at night and waste a day and not hang around all day on my return day.

Even with BUD dropped from March, Wizz will operate 39x weekly flights over 12x routes in August 2020, pretty impressive given LBAs RYR base will only see 56 x weekly flights over 14x routes next August.

In August 2020, the weekly Wizz schedule from DSA (and competition from neighbouring airports) will be as follows:

Poland - 22x weekly
GDN
- 5x weekly (LBA - 4x weekly with RYR)
KTW - 5x weekly
WAW - 4x weekly (LBA - 2x weekly to WMI with RYR / EMA - 2x weekly to WMI with RYR)
KRK - 3x weekly (LBA - 3x weekly with RYR / 2x weekly with EXS / EMA - 3x weekly with RYR)
POZ - 3x weekly
WRO - 2x weekly (LBA - 2x weekly with RYR / EMA - 4x weekly with RYR)

Romania - 9x weekly
OTP
- 4x weekly
CLJ - 3x weekly
TSR - 2x weekly

Latvia - 3x weekly
RIX
- 3x weekly (LBA - Route cancelled by RYR / EMA - 3x weekly with RYR)

Lithuania - 3x weekly
VNO
- 3x weekly (LBA - Route cancelled by RYR)

Hungary - 2x weekly
DEB
- 2x weekly
BUD - Cancelled (LBA - 2x weekly with EXS / EMA - 3x weekly with RYR)

It’s a real shame about this route loss, in recent weeks Wizz have been using A321’s on some rotations, and my understanding is that loads are good. In fact we used it in October last year, however, for some unexplained reason Wizz altered our Saturday morning 8.30 departure to Saturday 22.30. As this meant we would arrive in Budapest at around 2am, we opted to take our outbound flight from BHX, which was still Wizz operated, and at our original departure time of 830 am.
Our return flight to DSA the following Tuesday was rammed, I mean not 1 spare seat.
I have since noticed that the timings of the route have been all over the place, instead of keeping to a roughly settled timing, and I’m wondering if their a/c utilisation at Budapest is getting stretched, hence the dropping of certain destinations. I stand to be corrected, but I believe that BHX is dropping from 3 weekly to 2 weekly for Budapest also.

Yes Birmingham is dropping one rotation, shame that DSA seems to be losing out again through no fault of its own it is a slight worry that Wizz after maintaining steady sustainable growth have retracted a bit with the loss of routes and routes not even starting that were scheduled too like Chisinau. Hopefully we aren't set to see this trend continue however I am not filled with hope that we will see Wizz expanding at DSA any time soon where 12 months ago I would of hoped that Wizz would be looking at adding another route or two for 2020 like they had the coupe of previous years. It is a difficult one for DSA management they have relied on TUI and Wizz throughout somehow the airport needs to attract other carriers and take some of the reliance away from the two DSA mainstays that is a nut that the airport just can't crack though.

Ive read that Wizz Air UK is storing some aircraft at Doncaster.
Three came up from Luton today two around 2pm G-WUKH and G-WUKK then another followed around 4.30 G-WUKI, could be more on the way all aprons today were very quiet like everything had been moved inside and out the way to make some more room on the aprons. Normally quiet a few bits and bobs sit about day after day.

The three we got have been put out the way where the fire training area is and not on an apron.

G-WUKE arrived at 6am that's gone on stand 1L so assume we will see a couple more on that end of the tarmac before long leaving the other end of the apron at present for what passenger ops are still running (5 flights today)

From another forum , nothing different to elsewhere however very sad, the airport still has the likes of 2 Excel running as normal though.

The majority of staff have now been put on leave. We've been told to think of ourselves and find alternative employment if we can.
All of the food and drink outlets have closed, terminal is being prepared to be moth balled and a security firm coming in to look after the place for the short term.
The odd flight is still scheduled to operate, and some staff will be paid an hourly rate for the time needed to cover these flights.
Not sure what the long term plan is at this stage.

Note from The LocalYokel, F4A Admin.

The post from another forum quoted by Rob above has been categorically denied by Doncaster Sheffield Airport who have issued a statement accordingly. They say there is no-one of the poster's name employed at the airport. It seems the post on that other forum was the work of a sad individual intent on causing further distress at one of the most distressing times, outside world wars, that the world has faced for many a year.

There is no criticism whatsoever of Rob who was merely reporting what seemed to be a genuine post elsewhere. I read it on that other forum shortly after it was posted and had no reason to believe it was anything but genuine.

I hope that the PPRuNe moderators will take every sanction possible against this moronic individual.

I've not removed Rob's quoted post entirely as I feel it is a warning to us all that there are people out there who will post lies to get their own perverted kicks, and a reminder to us all, including me, that posts should be read with that in mind.

Fortunately, on F4A we have a mass of regular and responsible posters across all airport furums who can be trusted. In the past we have had one or two idiots who were quickly shown the door but such instances have been extremely rare. I know that many of us do read other aviation message board forums from time to time, hence the reminder.

Apparently the airport has issued a statement saying that the information in the post is untrue and that no staff have been laid off and that operations continue to run as normal.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
