Not your day!Absolute karnage in Check-in Hall A for Sun Express. Even the bag drop kiosks aren’t working
Oh don’t get me started with the que for security. It’s all way back to Check-in hall B.
It’s how am beginning to start to feel about the place. The extension opening cannot come soon enough as I’m having second thoughts about using LBA if thngs dont start to improve.Having recently used the terminal twice and we not even in peak summer, I cant stress how bad the whole LBA experience was.
The check in desks/baggage belts was broken on checked in (last week) so queued for ages. on return, we parked on stand 8, we had to wait for buses? to go 50m.. which took over 20 minutes in the late afternoon so not busy in terms of arrivals? where are all the bus drivers? to be funnelled through that bl00dy door and up the stairs. just chaos, not an airport i am proud of or enjoy using at the moment, needs bulldozing. Bring on the new terminal / expansion because this was abysmal experience.
Yet we came back from DBV at 22:20 last Saturday and coaches were prompt, 5 mins at immigration, bags were on the carousel when we came down the steps and we were in the free pick up area within 40 mins and home within an hour! It’s how am beginning to start to feel about the place. The place is a crap-hole and the is nothing nice to say about it. Hopefully the new arrivals hall will be open when I come back in June 29th.
Once the extension is open, the number of flights needing a bus transfer should reduce drastically. Currently, some buses are used to avoid departing passengers coming into contact with arrivals, which isn't allowed. The arrivals entrance will also be much further down the apron and so much closer to most of the aircraft stands.I’m using the airport to travel to and from AGP every 5 weeks or so according to my Schengen calculator. The departures are better than arrivals.
The only departure problem for me seems to be the new automated security entry barriers which, in my opinion, are far too sensitive and don’t allow a smooth throughput of people due to detecting movement around the barriers which seems to cause faults. Staff are on hand to try and move things along but compared to the similar barriers I encounter in Málaga it’s a negative experience.
The new security setup is efficient and excellent.
If it’s busy then Departures is bearable. Due to the building works boarding is much more compact in terms of working gates but it seems to be working well.
Arrivals - the bussing is the big issue here. I hope and pray that once the new facility opens we can egress aeroplanes and walk through to Border Control and out.
Living a few miles from the airport under the 32 flight path I’m grateful for my local airport. I’m hopeful that the new extension and renovated old building deals with all the issues and I’m happy to give them my support and look forward to the current problems being resolved.
That is exactly the experience I’ve noted since they were introduced. A stark contrast to similar facilities I’ve used elsewhere. As LBA have clearly thrown resources at the problem they are aware but we’re 10 weeks on since their introduction with no noticeable improvement (and we’re not into the main holiday season yet). Hopefully a solution is found soon. One observation I would make is that since the new automated boarding pass barriers have been introduced, the queue has been moved back more into the check in area compared to before (yes, apparently two people manually scanning was more efficient than the new 4 or 5 automated barriers). On some occasions this even leads to reduced throughput through the available security lanes (no queue whatsoever after the barriers). A backwards step which can hopefully be rectified.
I suspect this is more down to passengers being unfamiliar with using this system than the system itself not being an improvement. Surely, over time , as people get used to this, the situation will improve. These things aren't unique to LBA so if they cause problems here then you'd expect the same issues at other airports. One observation I would make is that since the new automated boarding pass barriers have been introduced, the queue has been moved back more into the check in area compared to before (yes, apparently two people manually scanning was more efficient than the new 4 or 5 automated barriers). I should flippin' well hope so! It's supposed to open before the end of June but no specific date was set as it was dependent upon how the trial runs went. Will it be open by mid July?
Great, travelling out to TFS late afternoon so be nice to use the newly opened extensionI should flippin' well hope so! It's supposed to open before the end of June but no specific date was set as it was dependent upon how the trial runs went.
