It would be a true delight and an eyeopener if advertising could reach a little south of Birmingham, just 15 miles to Redditch. We have a railway, we have omnibuses we have wireless sets and a few of us have been known to watch a television.
At least one person had been rumoured to possess something called the Interweb and has been made aware of the faceache site and a birdsong portal!
Everyone I talk with goes to Manchester or Gatwick because that is what travel agents tell them to do.
I do not mix with the wealth resident in my village so Heathrow never enters into my auditory canal.
No one considered Birmingham as an airport for anything beyond Spain or at a pinch Florida.
It is a major educational exercise to inform the entire region that Birmingham Airport has global reach.
I have shown them 'You Tube', the A380, the American Airlines and United aircraft going off to New York, one chap said he would never use an airline belonging to Manchester United! They were not aware of Air India or Pakistan Airlines and had no clue about Turkmenistan.
In fact no idea Birmingham Airport existed. The travel agents never bother to inform them of the possibility of using an airport on the doorstep.
Now a question, who is responsible for the advertising of routes, services, airlines etc.??
I trawl through news channels of all description and I have to declare and thank this BHX forum as you are the only way I know what is happening in real time.
The populace in the wilds of Worcestershire rely upon broadcast or print media since interweb is somewhat primitive here, I have Virgin Media, sometimes, but often use Freeview for television and am interweb blind frequently because it appears that little creatures get into the cables and feed well upon them.
I know I am waffling on a tad too much but the thrust of this posting is serious. BHX management need to understand the issues of the real consumer world. They need to be told of those individuals preventing growth at Birmingham. The travel agents and the media.
End of waffle!
