It would be a true delight and an eyeopener if advertising could reach a little south of Birmingham, just 15 miles to Redditch. We have a railway, we have omnibuses we have wireless sets and a few of us have been known to watch a television.

At least one person had been rumoured to possess something called the Interweb and has been made aware of the faceache site and a birdsong portal!

Everyone I talk with goes to Manchester or Gatwick because that is what travel agents tell them to do.

I do not mix with the wealth resident in my village so Heathrow never enters into my auditory canal.

No one considered Birmingham as an airport for anything beyond Spain or at a pinch Florida.

It is a major educational exercise to inform the entire region that Birmingham Airport has global reach.

I have shown them 'You Tube', the A380, the American Airlines and United aircraft going off to New York, one chap said he would never use an airline belonging to Manchester United! They were not aware of Air India or Pakistan Airlines and had no clue about Turkmenistan.

In fact no idea Birmingham Airport existed. The travel agents never bother to inform them of the possibility of using an airport on the doorstep.

Now a question, who is responsible for the advertising of routes, services, airlines etc.??

I trawl through news channels of all description and I have to declare and thank this BHX forum as you are the only way I know what is happening in real time.

The populace in the wilds of Worcestershire rely upon broadcast or print media since interweb is somewhat primitive here, I have Virgin Media, sometimes, but often use Freeview for television and am interweb blind frequently because it appears that little creatures get into the cables and feed well upon them.

I know I am waffling on a tad too much but the thrust of this posting is serious. BHX management need to understand the issues of the real consumer world. They need to be told of those individuals preventing growth at Birmingham. The travel agents and the media.

End of waffle!

This is something that should be bought to the attention of those at BHX.

Have you thought about copy and pasting that into an email and sending it to Mr Kehoe?

Forgive me Sir Raymond but I no longer have the skills or the technology to perform the suggestion you prefer to myself. I once was able to perform such an action but sadly no more.

You have my full legal authority to perform an action in my name or your own as you may see fit.

If Sir, you may be able to light a substantial firework under the chair of Head Honcho, perhaps something may come of this situation.

I thank you for the interest you are showing and for your patience with my rambling posts.

I do my best!

Could BHX run an advert on the Midlands radio stations with a list of the best destinations/airlines available? I notice that airports rarely (if ever) advertise on broadcasting media although airlines do a lot. Time for a change of tactics?

Perhaps BHX ought to be really cheeky and advertise in MAN's back yard. I remember that Cardiff Airport once paid for a Bristol city double decker regular service bus to be decked out in CWL colours with all the routes then flown from CWL listed around the bodywork. It was driven around Bristol for many months.

An interesting point TLY, but I can't see the people of Manchester rejecting services from their own airport, to travel to Birmingham. The only exceptions, would be routes not served from Manchester. The only ones that spring to mind, are Air India and Turkmenistan.
The regions that straddle the border between the two airports, may be different. North Staffordshire and possibly south Cheshire ?
Coming from Bloxwich, right on the West Midlands/Staffordshire border (it was in fact in Staffordshire, when I was born there), using Manchester as a departure point would never cross my mind. It would always be BHX, or from BHX via a European/Middle east hub.

There has been quite a bit of radio advertising of late, both on Heart FM and Free Radio.

I only hear it at work but recently there has been a fair bit of advertising for United, American and Iberia. Others have been mentioned in the past.

I think the airport have also been sponsoring the traffic and travel bulletins.

Great stuff, it looks as if they're going for it.

Their adverts have been on TV for a while but I've noticed that there is now a Birmingham advert tagged onto the end of them.

Picture from BHX Twitter, apparently it's by Wolverhampton train station.

Cheers Brum X

I saw that advert, here in Cambridgeshire a couple of days ago. I had intended to mention it here, although it didn't appear to have any specific relationship to BHX. I've not seen it since and don't recall Monarch advertising on TV in the past. Perhaps, it's indicative of Monarch's current owners and their future plans for the airline?

United are doing some sort of competition with Free Radio and are getting lots of mentions on the station, there is also quite a bit of advertising on the Free Radio website.

Qatar are also on Free Radio sponsoring the weather (I think?) with regular air time, there is also advertising on the Free website.

I'm hearing lots of Jet2 Holidays adverts on local radio promoting Birmingham for S17.

Great to see them getting their product out there (y)

I've just been sitting and lazily watching the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics on BBC1.
As Cape Verde were introduced, the commentator stated that direct flights were available to Cape Verde from Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham.
I woke up slightly, on hearing that - great to see BHX get a free promotion on a BBC broadcast which will be watched worldwide.

The BBC actually mentioned Birmingham without discussing home grown terrorists or child abuse scandals?

Definitely a nice bit of free publicity (y)

I wonder what Bristol Airport did to upset this commentator.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
