I don`t think it ever happened as we came into the recession but I will have a dig in my old magazines

The difference a couple of decades makes and losing a based airline that seemed to have the potential to do what Virgin/Flybe look like doing now but decided that the better way was route everything over LHR. Would be good if BA were to acknowledge the disservice they did to the regions during the course of the 100 year celebrations! But then we wouldn't have the diverse operations we have now.

I didn't realise when I decide to post on this thread, that I was the last one to do so - 6 months ago.
Come on MAN fans, reminisce with us even if it is only to appease an "oldie" like myself. (first visit to MAN 1965)

Not as far back as that but one from a scheduled airline in 1980

Thank you Seasider. Unfortunately j don't have any old photos to share although, having said that I've just remembered some prints in an album that I'll try to dig out!!

Okay Seasider here we go. All taken in 2000 when I had the pleasure of flying on the Aer Lingus DH-84 Dragon. Also of interest are the photos, as we were on base leg for 24 - I don't think it had changed to 23 at that time and neither had the L/R designation been applied - of the new runway under construction.
Unfortunately I've lost my photo of the Lufthansa Junkers JU-87 that I also had the joy of flying on from Manchester to Heathrow - Special VFR via Congleton/Litchfield and Bovingdon for a visual approach onto 28R.

Okay Seasider here we go.

Lovely photos Scottie, must be great memories, my first ever flight was on a Dragon Rapide from Elmdon around 1960 when you could take a pleasure flight at weekends so long as your parents paid.

The whole 200+ photos from 1987

Strikes me T1 went through a big transformation that year, a lot of the old fittings and fixtures were removed and building work going on.
This was certainly the time I would have been the 7 year old kid with his nose pressed up to the glass in the cafe area looking at Dan Air's lining the peir :)

This caught my eye... paging the health and safety department!

17th August would be an appropriate day for a bit of nostalgia, golden anniversary of an event and all that malarkey.

Great photo's. In 1987 I was only 4 but I do remember T1 from around 1991 onwards and these photo's take me back to going on my annual summer holidays with my parents to either mainland Spain (Malaga) or somewhere in Majorca. Usually Flying Monarch and always boarding from Pier C.

I remember that black flooring in arrivals, can't remember where it was in departures though, apart from at check in? Looks awful looking back now!
I see can why T2 was needed, it looks very crowded and of course it was August but I imagine a new terminal was a welcome relief when it opened in 1993.

The black flooring and the noise it made when you pushed the trolley over it, I think originally the black flooring all over but then it was removed as bits were refurbished.
I remember security being next to WH Smith just under the big departures board, it was a short run from departures landside to airside, something like three lanes of someone checking your boarding pass and some bag scanners? My memory of departures airside is fuzzy, I remember a big duty free and sitting area but thats mostly it. I think most shopping was done landside.

Those old pics are great
I spent many an evening cycling down the car park escalator after waiting for the air france and swissair to come in

And sitting in the cafe in t1 departures, spottingon level 11 because it was hammering down

Yes it was me
While im confessing,
We used to go down inthelift from the car park, into t1 arrivals with our bikes as well
And at the bottom the lifts would open and theyd be dozens and dozens of angry people stood therewitb the cases and small children we would have to wade through as well lol

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
