@a300boy won't be happy. As part of the governments push to get councils to build more houses Leeds City Council have apparently agreed to build more homes right next to the runway near Yeadon Tarn. The plans are part of a ten year strategy.

There is land adjacent to the runway owned currently by LBA, which has been earmarked for housing development for some years now. Is this proposed development on that land (with the council purchasing the land from LBA) or further across towards the cemetery on other land? I hope that isn't the case. I did wonder which private house building firm would take the apparent risk of building a new development right next to a runway, but if it is council built social housing, then that problem won't arise.

I work with someone who lives on your street A300 Boy, and after speaking to a town planner she knows, the words ‘not going to happen’ came out in conversation. More likely to end up as another airport carpark was the general concensus. Would it not impinge on the ILS equipment being than close?

Good question @Bigman imagine building houses to then realise it tampers with the ILS. It would be game over for the airport or the houses.

The land owned by LBA is shown as housing on the Masterplan - and I hardly think LBA would allocate the space to housing if in doing so it compromised the ILS. Whether or not it ever happens is another matter, but if Leeds Council gives planning permission and LBA sell to a housing developer, then there is no reason why it shouldn't, although in my view, buyers should be made to sign a statement that they will not lodge complaints about aircraft noise when they move in!

I had a meeting with the local MP a couple of weeks ago and he told me that an agreement with the Airport Management and Leeds Council was in place not to build houses on this land and to find funding to expand the airport elsewhere.
The residents are getting together to form an action group to have this land removed from the planning application which would remove the need for any such agreement.
If they use it for airport related infrastructure so be it but houses wont be welcome and I and many of my aviation colleagues believe it to be unsafe and far too noisy for houses to be sited so near to the runway, not to mention potential turbulence generation at the runway 14 threshold from our westerly winds.
I have to say this summer has seen an increase in after midnight arrivals on all days of the week which has been noted by the locals and I would not like to see this potential problem escalate.

The overall number of night time movements remains within the quota allowed within the planning consent for 24 hours operations, so there is the potential for more flights landing after midnight, but only if the number of aircraft based at LBA increases with more flights scheduled to land after 12. Even then, if LBA was measured on a level playing field with all other UK airports, those flights leaving between 0600 and 0700 would be classed as daytime flights, not night time flights as they currently are at LBA. If that hour was changed to day time flights like other airports (as it should be), then LBA would be a considerable number of night time movements short of the limit set. It is an unfortunate side affect of having based aircraft fitting in the required number of rotations per day. You cannot really have it both ways. If you want a successful airline operation at LBA providing the range of flights, then it is inevitable that there will be a good few aircraft arriving back at LBA in the early hours. At least it is only really an issue 6 months of the year!

Bristol has quite a severe night time noise quota and movement limit. For the noise quota night time is 2330-0600 and is split into two periods, summer (BST) and winter (GMT) with summer only having 40% more quota count limit than winter despite its longer period and being much busier. Any unused quota from a previous season up to 10% can be used in the following season and up to 10% can be borrowed from the next season. In practice this means winter helping out summer nearly every year. The airport is not seeking to have its quota count increased but is asking for it to be spread across the year with no seasonality.

Running alongside this is a limit on the number of take-offs and landings than can take place between 2300 and 0700.

I see the airport is actively sending tweets out to its press contacts regards them updating there details on the official media database so they receive all the upcoming news!

I wonder what the upcoming news maybe! New routes, Airline, or finally they are going to get on with the long awaited Terminal Development....

have you any idea what the year(s) would be when the local farmer opened is field on the runway 14 end for spotters car parking, and had the tea bar in there the chocolate cake was to die for, also on the sunday (i think)
there was a visit from air-2000 with a 757 AAorAB.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
