Can someone explain the time limit of a mask please? It's not like after 2 hours the mask starts letting more of the virus through is it?

The only instructions for use on the box supplied for my surgical masks

"Change immediately once contaminated by blood or if torn in critical area"

I also have a fabric version that would suggest wash after use.

I think the analogy used (at least for fabric ones) is to treat it like a sponge, it can only absorb so much moisture.

Thanks Coathanger16 but nothing confirmed ?

Still a number of variables at play. The FAA have proposed a number of changes; its now up to Boeing to implement them and then the FAA will have to certify those changes.

Barring no further problems, the MAX should be flying again for next summer.

I wonder if someone could confirm or deny that the FAA certification following the modifications will only apply to US registered aircraft.
All other aircraft can only be brought back into service following mods and then certification from their own Aviation Authority,ie CAA here in the UK.
Therefore it could be possible, although unlikely that some authorities outside of the U.S could look for further mods or flight trials following FAA certification.
Am I complicating things or is this possible?

I think, but not certain, that the home authority has primacy. FAA for Boeing and EASA for Airbus whilst domestic agencies take care of local regulations. CAA for UK register and IAA for IRISH and MAA for UK military.

Typically each regulator will accept other regulators certification - e.g. the FAA certified the Boeing 787, and then rather than do their own certification, EASA accepted the FAA's "evidence". The aircraft is still EASA certified, but in essence all the tests were done by the FAA. The reverse will be true for all Airbus made aircraft.

In the case of the MAX (post grounding) I seem to recall EASA saying they would run their own certification process on top of the FAA's, so the MAX could well be flying in the States, yet still be grounded in Europe.

Additionally I believe the UK is leaving EASA at the end of the year (B**x*t) so I wouldn't be surprised to see certification of the MAX being used as leverage by either side in trade talks (between the UK and USA).

It is likely that UK cease contributions to EASA as with all EU agencies it separates from whilst retaining the body of regulations through confirmation of absorbsion into UK law when Parliament decides to get things moving. The CAA will become the primary regulator in Jan 1 next for activities on the UK register. Thanks due to Coathanger and Mullion for helping clear my mind.

Thanks Coathanger16,Jennyjet and Mullion for your replies.I do have a feeling that this MAX situation is far from finished.
It will be interesting to see what unfolds over the coming months.
TUI themselves may not need to bring their MAX aircraft into service until the spring/early summer anyway. We will see what happens!!!!

Looks as if TUi have started to wield the axe for S21.

Catania is not on sale at the moment which leaves BHX with absolutely nothing to Sicily for next year.

Split also looks to have gone but no real surprise on that one.

Will go through the rest when I get chance but it's more than likely that there will be further changes.

Cheers Ian.

Looks to be one aircraft down on what we should have had which isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things. It's just a shame to lose our one and only flight to Sicily.

I'm assuming that long haul will see a similar fate in due course.

No real surprise Ray, still think 2021 is going to be another tough year for the aviation industry, I'm expecting Jet2 to cut back as well, no chance of even seeing 2019 passenger numbers/flights numbers for several years.

Lets just hope most of the airlines serving BHX are still trading next summer.
Agreed, BHX isn’t my local airport, but I think, for now, the best any of us can hope for is that all the airlines (and airports) will survive the next year or two in order to start rebuilding networks again in the mid-long term future.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
