TUI will be happier now the 737MAX has been certified, subject to existing aircraft being modified. I wonder what the confidence level will be for passengers in the future.

Just to clarify, its only the FAA so far that has re-certified the MAX thereby allowing it to fly again in the USA only (once modifications have been made).

EASA is doing its own certification, with test flights having been completed in September, so will be a few weeks behind.

Best to sit tight on this one, Civil air transport in the doldrums and fleets of this jet basically unflyable through lack of use and a negative image that may frighten off potential passengers.

I am unfit to travel so my comments on this aircraft are probably useless but I wish it success!

Why are they unfit to fly Jenny, The ones stored at Manchester are checked very regularly at Manchester including engine runs and they flew the other one to BHX no problem

Are not aircraft designed to fly? Engine runs are fine but being in the air is better for an aircraft surely perhaps to prevent gremlins taking hold?

Am I being simplistic? I understood stored aircraft have to be overhauled and critically checked before returning to flying duties but I admit to being no expert.

Basically it depends.

If an aircraft is in short term storage, it will be checked fairly regularly and when it's needed it can fly again straight away.

If it's stored more longer term, the aircraft will be checked before going into storage and will be secured in a state as to protect it - this even includes covering the seats with plastic and closing the window blinds. Engine inlets & outlets are secured. Sometimes even undercarriage is wrapped up. When the aircraft then comes out of storage it will have some checks to make sure all is well, and then it can fly again.

The MAX will have to undergo modifications anyway before returning to service so will likely have a good overhaul then.

Hello JoeYG and welcome to the forum. Matt.J.B has in the past compiled and posted PDF documents detailing routes, timings and aircraft type, but I think he'll find it tougher to get accurate info for this summer. As you say, COVID has had a major impact and plans are constantly changing.

Hurghada is now showing as 3x weekly rather than the announced 4. Hopefully it's to make way for the return of Sharm and not TUi up to their usual antics.

Hi Joe, I've not compiled any timetables yet for summer 2021, its pretty impossible at present, with the rumours that Spain might not be accepting any holiday makers until late autumn, and other covid restrictions in place, its still all up in the air!

As for aircraft types, any long haul will certainly by on the Boeing 787-8 or 787-9, short haul based is usually the 738, and most likely the 737 max , with 1 of the remaining 757s possibly based for the last time.

My personal feeling, is its going to be a very reduced summer programme again for 2021, with maybe only a couple of short haul aircraft based, I think it will be summer 2022 before things will pick up to "normal" levels.
