Three this afternoon, including what appears to be either a consolidated Kefallinia flight or just a different time. That's an arrival.

Perhaps it's early signs of their reorganisation or just a quiet day. Don't seem to have the "clout" they used to have at BHX!

Maybe time for EasyJet to make a concrete appearance.....I spoke with Tom Screen about this earlier in the year. A snippet of his reply.....

easyJet have remained elusive as their previous corporate position was always that they picked up the West Midlands catchment with their Manchester, Luton and Bristol bases. This attitude has started to change in the last two years and the expansion in away based flying on both domestic and international routes can be seen as a test bed for opening a base. The same can be said of Wizz Air UK. Please believe me when I say that we are striving for this.

EasyJet have recently closed three bases in the UK as a result of Covid-19 and with the current state of the market, along with the position the UK Government has taken, there is little to inspire confidence in opening new UK bases, but 2022 does present an opportunity and we are engaged with easyJet regarding this.

Sounds positive. Here's hoping......

And to continue what TUI say and a pinch of salt...

G-OOBB was supposed to operate its final flight earlier this week but I've just watched it land at BHX from JSI. Is that it, or is there another rotation to be squeezed out?!

not fully checked the TUI release for summer 2023 yet, but have noticed an increase of flight to Florida, 4 flights a week to Orlando Melbourne Airport, on a Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday, Cancun 3 a week, Montego Bay 2 a week, and Punta Cana twice a week.

No obvious new destinations added, and currently no Salzburg, Marsa Alam, Alghero, Catania, Porto Santo or Verona showing. Maybe Salzburg & Verona will be added later, as possibly the Lakes & Mountains programme hasnt been added yet for 2023!

A few years ago we has just one flight a week (to Sanford at the time). Good to see some progress on the route, but still far below what BHX should be able to sustain to Florida.

In the past I've banged on and on about the BHX to Orlando route and compared it to MAN. The figures were something like thirty flights per year from BHX summer only weekly service where MAN had over twenty per week with Virgin alone double daily on a 747.

I think the increase TUI are offering is partly driven by the fact that their cruise division Marella are operating from Port Canaverel which was part of the decision to switch to Melbourne from Sanford.

As winter is the high season for Caribbean holidays maybe a year round service is a possibility but probably too optimistic as Bridgetown and Montego Bay cover the winter Caribbean market for TUI in more normal times.

Dug out the CAA stats for 2018 to Orlando the year BHX reached its record of 12.9 million passengers.

Gatwick 918,000
Manchester 525,000
Birmingham 18,000

The figures are combined for both Orlando and Sanford.

Just puts into perspective how many people flog up the M6 or down the M40.

Based on that TUI should easily fill up four weekly.

Aer Lingus will be planning to take a chunk of Virgin passengers at MAN on the Orlando route.. So my point was wouldn’t it be good if Aer Lingus curbed the flow of passengers by serving BHX Orlando directly thereby hitting Virgins catchment two fold

Matty_85 I did initially reply to your post, but then I realised that I wasn't in a Manchester thread and therefore my response was inappropriate!
Now I'll start afresh.
I still don't understand why you would want VIR to be hit on two sides by EUK. If you look at the numbers quoted by Rollo in post #810 then there is only a fairly low starting figure to be had (18,000) whereas by operating MAN-MCO they have a good chance of breaking into the route - remember that TCX flew the route before their demise and therefore these passengers can be shared between VIR & EUK. The other thing to also be remembered is that VIR were using B744 versus the A333 that will be used this winter.
I certainly see no reason why BHX should not attract airlines to operate to MCO, however I don't believe that it should happen in the way that you, wistfully perhaps, were suggesting.

As a supporter of BHX I have no allegiance to Virgin & I’d love to see an airline (which there aren’t many in the UK Orlando leisure market besides Aer Lingus) take them on from BHX & claw back some of that leakage to the south & north.

It’s obvious the passenger numbers posted in #810 don’t reflect the demand for the region and it’s very likely midlanders are travelling to other airports because BHX isn’t offering a year round service with more frequency. We all know that a greater choice of flight times & frequency is key to attracting customers. BHX has been restricted for a long time by having no airline offering year round services & as Virgin is a big player on the Orlando leisure route & has shown zero interest in BHX, it’s good to see a healthy competitor in the form of Aer Lingus.

I honestly don’t have any interest in Manchester Airport forum pages, so I don’t know why you would think my post would be there or why my post was such an issue for you?

If I wanted to purchase a Chocolate covered Marzipan bar at my local shop and they did not have it, I would not consider an inconvenience of travelling to another district to obtain one. Thus, why would I bother to go to another airport. I should expect my local to offer a popular service and if not available, no one will support a service. Am I unreasonable?

Jenny perhaps a better comparison would be railways, Birmingham has a very good selection but say Solihull doesn`t you don`t have the option

Solihull sits upon a minor track

Being pedantic but...

Birmingham International Station, which is on the West Coast Main Line and therefore has pendolino trains, is actually located in the Borough of Solihull.

Additionally, Solihull Station is on the Chiltern Main Line with multiple trains per hour to London, so hardly a minor track.

And will have its own Hs2 station, hardly a minor track JennyJet and Mullion for starting the conversation, lol

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
