Time for the old Toys R Us car park to come down, it's in too much of a prominent position to remain.

If that's the car park behind the new tower in this picture, then its due to be demolished in the next few years for the Martineau Galleries development.

I have to admit when I saw it was due for launch today I feared the worst, I had visions of us (in true Brummie fashion) nausing it up beyond belief but I am pleased to say that I am really pleasantly surprised.

Well done to all concerned (y)

Watching the piece on local news earlier it really struck me how it seemed to resonate with the younger generation but seeing the video below when Emma-Lou finds out that her design was the winner is so heart-warming, after all the Commonwealth Games is all about leaving a legacy to the next generation.

Well done Emma-Lou, you should be immensely proud (y)

Whilst I welcome the positive news from Andy in these uncertain times, why is the WMCA paying £5 million pounds to clean up the land of a site that a developer wants to build on ? Surely Court Colloboration (developer) should be paying for this as it's there development ?

I believe the current owners have a legal duty to decontaminate the land before handing over title to the land. The developers can expect nothing less! Like house purchase, you expect your new garden to be safe to enjoy!

But surely the current owners are Court Collaboration who have full planning permission to built circa 1100 homes ? This land is currently the Bullring Trading Estate which is still standing but vacant since it was sold to Court Collaboration some time ago.

Having planning permission relates to developing the site, with all the obligations in Law to make and keep safe under Health and Safety at work Act. The trading estate as was may have had spillage in the past that may have left a trace of harmful materials which needs to be addressed. As I said, a safe site comes before any development works for the construction workers at least and future residents. This is pertinent speculation at the moment but I guess a lot of work will be done before the crane moves on site!

Since I do not have an active Twitter account, can someone tell me where the above development is located please?

It's just off Bath Row and behind The Mailbox JennyJet. Mailbox being the old Royal Mail depot in Birmingham City Centre. Do you know it ?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
