I’ve been fairly looky and avoided Racheal Reeves knocking on my door what with being away last few weeks here in Turkey
 
So today, Leeds West & Pudsey MP Rachel Reeves, our new tenant of 11 Downing Street, has announced a package of measures aimed at boosting the economy. Included are changes aimed at making it quicker and easier to secure planning consent, especially for projects relating to infrastructure which might boost the economy. She is also to increase funding to Councils to enable a significant increase in planning officers and some previously refused planning applications which again might boost the economy, are to be reviewed. All very laudable.

But, is it just me that finds this somewhat bemusing given that said Ms. Reeves actively did all she could together with the other 4 Leeds Labour MPs, to block the construction of a nice shiny new terminal at LBA on the grounds it would lead to the growth of the airport, which in turn would, without doubt, have boosted the economy locally, and therefore nationally too. Ms Reeves clearly has two hats to wear. One as an interfering negative thinking Leeds MP and now one as Chancellor where she seeks to undo damage to the economy which may not have been so great had MPs like her taken a more forward thinking line.

I know that in the end, our terminal wouldn't have been built due to COVID and vastly increased costs, but even so. Reeves didn't know that COVID would come galloping over the hill to put a stop to the scheme.
 
Yes and it's somewhat conflicting with the current "climate emergency" message. Surely thousands of new homes built on green belt will have an environmental impact along with all the co2 they will spew out during the building process and thereafter. Most if not all these new homes will be occupied by car owning residents who will need new roads and infrastructure to facilitate it will they not? Like I say, it's a mixed message so they will need to get all their ducks in order quickly if they're to do this without looking silly.

@The Pole I am marginally taller than that - as those on here that actually do know me will testify! That said it being a small BCFC mascot is probably a true reflection of where the football club sit in the grand scheme of things

I bumped into LBA4EVER up there a few weeks ago, only recognised him from his avatar photo.

I assume they mean apron, rather than runway. That being said are they suggesting that Protestors would purchase tickets and pose as legitimate travellers to gain access to the apron?

Yes these reporter's can't tell the difference between a runway and an apron. If it's concrete, it's a runway. How many times do we read of delayed passengers sitting on the runway for hours, rather than on a plane, in their seat, on the apron/stand.

As for access to the runway, at Stansted they didn't bother pretending to be anything. Good old wire cutters got them through the perimeter fence in seconds .

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
