Santa in flying visit to Leeds children’s hospice

Delighted children at a Leeds hospice had a surprise visit from Santa Claus, who arrived in a helicopter.

Yorkshire private aviation company Multiflight helped to make it a Christmas to remember for children and their families at Martin House Children’s Hospice, in Boston Spa, by providing a helicopter to fly Santa in with presents.

Multiflight and Leeds Bradford Airport put together the special festive treat.

Sheila O’Leary, of Martin House Children’s Hospice, said: “Santa arriving in his helicopter was magical. The children and adults were excited from the moment they got up and the children squealed with delight as soon as the helicopter was spied in the sky.

“Some of the children are too poorly or find it difficult to see Santa in his grotto and it was lovely to bring Santa to them and for them to experience this memorable event. We want to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”

Linda Nicholls, of Multiflight, said: “It’s great to be able to help give the children, their families and the staff at the hospice a special treat. Pals Amy and Beatrice looked like little princesses in their wheelchairs and were very excited.”

Multiflight provided the helicopter and airport chiefs gifted the presents for the children at the hospice and their siblings.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s commercial director, said: “We wanted to make sure that the children have a wonderful Christmas with lots of presents and an extra special visit from Santa. It’s a really memorable and heartwarming trip for all involved.”

Martin House Children’s Hospice provides care for children and young people with progressive life limiting illnesses and provides support to their families.

The hospice needs to raise £4.5 million annually to run the service it provides at its purpose built hospice in Boston Spa, Wetherby, and care for youngsters from across the Yorkshire region

I can't see it attracting anything out of the ordinary to be honest. Leeds has it's own Film Festival and we don't seem to see any unusual visitors for that. The stars seem to stick with the Cannes Film Festival.

We seem to have quite a few flights operating tomorrow.
Maybe Leeds has at last reached the 21st century in commercial terms. Sorry for the staff who have to work though.
Seasons greeting to all !!!

Happy Christmas to you all!!

It was nice to see these four airlines lined up together today. Expansion brought to Leeds under the ownership of Bridgepoint.

In case it's useful to someone LBA now has the birds eye view from Google maps if you zoom in. It gives an interesting angle.

If I'm not mistaken "birds eye view" of the airport has been available on Google Maps for a while.

Yes it has, as there is a Jet2 733 lined up on runway 14 waiting to depart. Very interesting to look at though, especially as you can clearly see the old pre war apron dating back to the 1930's.

Has anybody heard about the now £6 charge for drop off and pick up at the airport, I think its only for large vehicles however I have heard alot of people complaining about it on BBC Leeds!

Just seen on Facebook,Red Sea Holidays to introduce flights to Sharm el Sheikh from 2nd May.

It doesn't say if they are chartering their own aircraft or using allocation on already exsisting flights.Anybody have anymore info?

It looks like Red Sea Holidays are taking a seat allocation on the new summer Sharm el Sheikh flights which are to be operated by the based Thomson Airways Boeing 737-800 on Thursdays.

Seee http://www.redseaholidays.co.uk for more details.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
