I have to agree with Mr. Mullion even if it riles me. British Airways have, since privatisation, ceased to operate in the best interests of the nation that is emblazoned upon their aircraft. People sarcastically say London Airways and I am coming round to that view.

however, BHX is ideally located to be the hub for South Asian carriers given the population density of the diaspora and BA could clean up if they had the guts to try given the suspect foundations of the local carriers. Dozens of idle aircraft available and crews to go, what else do they need other than regulatory approvals?

and yes, I am BA fan, always have been.

The chance of BA operating these routes would be zero or less.

Cloud Cukoo land I reckon.

I simply do not understand the logic of PIA codesharing with Pegasus. The following is all based on Manchester but the logic will be for Birmingham as well

The linked articles states 265 passengers out of MAN on the 1st service broken down to 26 "executive economy" and 229 bog standard economy,

The A320s seat 186 passengers in normal economy which already means 80 passengers not available to be carried. Add in passengers flying to Istanbul and/or other Pegasus destinations then you can deduct around 130 to 140 passengers from the max seating which leaves a princely total of around 45 to 50 seats for Pakistan bound passengers. Therefore Pegasus would have to fly 5 weekly just to maintain the number of passengers it gets on a single service so they'd need to be double daily to try to reflect better the demand unless they only want to restrict passenger numbers by government decree?!

By far a better solution would be trying to get to some arrangement with Qatar whose lease rates may be a lower than Hi-Fly and look ar using 2 787s /A350s and operate 4 or 5 times weekly to BHX, MAN and LHR?

Of all the available unused aircraft sitting in storage and suitable aircrew wanting work with genuine licences, why piddle around with Pegasus or anyone else? Getting PIA back to international standards is better than scratching about filling gaps in a troubled network and if the States of Pakistan and India could get along better then there might need be no problems in fulfilling schedules. I believe friendly nations help each other when encountering difficulties!

I think we need British Airways to start Lahore, Karachi flights from Birmingham UK demand is high.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to speak to someone fairly high up in PIA and asked about more destinations from BHX, his reply was that the majority of the demand from the Greater Birmingham region is to ISB. He did say that there is a market for other destinations in Pakistan but it was significantly lower than ISB . That was a few years ago though so it may have changed since.

Sorry but I am confused, the article says a service to MAN yesterday was operated by Hifly. So is this just a temporary arrangement for a couple of weeks until the Pegasus agreement comes into operation ?

HiFly looks to be a temporary solution with just 6 (I think it is?) flights to the UK.

If this tie up with Pegasus goes ahead it seems as if they will be regular services through to Pakistan via SAW, I'd imagine until PIA regain permissions to fly into the UK again.

I recall that one, was it an extension to Karachi? I used to watch their B743 glide over Brownhills towards BHX and a magnificent sight it was. Those were my working years and I later caught sight of it on the ground with a Monarch DC10 waiting for a gate to become available. They were good days at BHX!

Thank you (y)

PIA cancelled full stop or just the HiFLY flights cancelled ?

The HiFly flight (we were only due one) is canx.

What's happened to Pegasus taking over ?

This seemed to be one of the stumbling blocks.

Presently, there were slot hiccups at Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, Istanbul, sources said and added that the issue would be resolved shortly through diplomatic channel.

The market to Pakistan is massive so I am sure if not Pakistan in the short term someone else will fill the void.

Pakistan are banned from Europe till early 2021 so wont be seen in the UK at all in 2020.

Hopefully Pegasus will come good or another operator will step in.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
