Next block of snow due on Saturday. One of the forecast models I've seen indicate potentially 10cm around Birmingham, 3cm for Manchester and as much as diddly squat for Leeds, Longer range ones (10 day totals) show around 20cm for Birmingham, 13cm for Manchester and 28cm for Leeds

Re: Weather warnings, then do what? I have yet to meet anyone that can divert weather or render it or negate it's effect.

How about if I offer a forecast,........once the current wet spell has ended, a drought or very dry period will lead to a warm Easter then another wet period as the Cricket season begins. There shall follow heatwave conditions with short periods of intense rainfall events.

This is our climate, as regular as Christmas. Who are the warnings for? Do people actually act upon them or can they if under restrictions?

Last weekend, in my area of Worcestershire, substantial snow was the warning yet not a single snowflake came!

I can see why they do put out warnings well in advance. These are the "new snow" forecasts from the website I look at using the most accurate model

Looking at the snowfall and resultant disruption in the Yorkshire region and beyond overnight and this morning, it's difficult to believe that a sunny, mild and almost springlike West Country is in the same small island.

Part of Greater Manchester had snow but all i saw was a colourless version of snow. You may know this better as "rain'

The Met Office has just issued a Yellow warning for more Snow & Ice this weekend into next week.

Valid from 15:00 Saturday February 6th until 23:59 Monday, February 8th 2021

There is actually an Amber warning for parts of Scotland with heavy snow expected primarily for the North of the central belt through the highlands.

Bit of an upmarket storm then. Perhaps the storm namer is a Jane Austen fan. She has many connections with Bath but we don't want this Darcy coming anywhere near the West Country even if Ms Austen's Darcy was his surname.

I am beginning to suspect media pressure here, some difficult weather expected "Hey folks, can you give it a name?". Then they send reporters with camera crew to salivate over peoples distress etc. My goodness , blood pressure rising as a write!!

There's been a mini industry within weather forecasting circles for a number of years when it comes to naming storms. See the link below for this year's names.

After Darcy it will be Evert then Fleur. They take them alphabetically each year. Further down the list lying in wait for later storms this year are such monikers as Heulwen, Tobias and Veronica.

For nearly 40 years in the middle of the last century the USA only named storms and hurricanes after women. This led to complaints from the feminist lobby and others and eventually the policy was changed to include male names as well. Not a joke - see below link.

We've spoke about the naming of storms before. It's ridiculous that just about nearly every winter weather front is now named as if it's going to be like a hurricane.

Storm Darcy was named by the Dutch Weather Service apparently. Presumably because it hit them first.

Have the names had some posh touch this year? Storm Fleur - then she can be named Storm Fleur east. Fleur east been someone who was on X-Factor in 2005. An alright singer.
