sentinel pay the airport every time one of there buses goes through the barrier into the drop off area, doncaster still give you 15mins free for drop off and collection.

As copied just now from the DSA website.
Closest to the action
For drop-off and pick-up you can park right outside terminal. It’s just £1 for 10 minutes, although if you need longer each additional 15 minutes costs another £5. Simply follow the drop-off and pick up signs when you drive in, take a ticket from the barrier and pay by cash or card on your way out.

15 minutes free
Alternatively you can pull up in our short stay car park. It’s only a few minutes’ walk away from the terminal and it’s completely free for 15 minutes

So in certain circumstances it may be not as good as LBA as Doncaster only gives you 15 mins in short stay car park (a few minutes walk away from the terminal) whereas LBA offers one hour free parking in the free parking zone. Also noticed the last time that I was up at LBA that Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free parking in the short stay car park in front of the terminal so no need for disabled people to have to park in the free zone and have to walk the 4-5 minutes to the terminal. Also for drop of and pick up it could work out more expensive at Doncaster as the charge is £5 per additional 15 minutes over the £1 for 10 minutes charge.

the 15 mins free drop and collect point in the car park is opposite the terminal i shall be using it again in 3 weeks time.

The 30 minutes free in the short term is useless for most disabled people, its too far in distance and too short a
time for the distance and this is without taking the slope in to consideration, which makes it totally impossible for most of us and the free zone is impossible too on distance and exposure to the elements.
Fortunatley you get 60 minutes for your £3 in the terminal Front Express car park, unfortunately, no staff in the car park, last time I exited, I held up the whole car park up at peak time as I pressed the bell as it requested more then the £3 car park charge, in the end a guy had to come out from the terminal to sort out. Its a poor system as it mirrors the system at Otley Hospital which had to be withdrawn as on social media folk were educated how to save a few pound by defeating the system, the LBA system falls in to the same boat.
It does bug me that LBA does not follow the proper rules on the checking of Blue Badges and just allows any one willy nilly to flash a badge, a recent DVLA check at White Rose showed just how widespread the incorrect use of the badge is, meaning those who relie on it totally to get about, are often left stranded.

I`m sure some of you know this, but if you don`t and are parking at LBA have a look at this from the Martyn Lewis website
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-airport-parking
Then scroll down until you get to Holiday Extras. The website gives you about the best discount you can find anywhere. Sentinal, who are the best by far, always come out cheapest. £20 cheaper than the airport Long stay for our May trip. Always use them since we were delayed by 4 hours due to snow a couple of years ago, Sentinal made no extra charge. You can bet the airport ticket machines would`nt have been so generous.

Using them 3 times this year

I believe the airport charge £1 booking fee now.

They can`t help themselves can they, they just think the passengers are cash machines.Their new parking jobbie, opposite Sentinal, is to be called Viking and is being advertised as such. Still way more expensive than Sentinal(without booking fee) but why are they doing it?..They are really competing with themselves, its the cheapest airport owned car park which can only serve to draw trade away from their own existing higher priced parks, albeit nearer the terminal building, but still needing buses. Hmm part of a master plan no doubt

Maybe so, but Viking is still in competition with the the other airport owned car parks. Those who don`t go to Sentinal will head for the cheapest alternative and sorry but they won`t give a monkeys what its funding purpose is. That`s reality

Paully are you connected to Sentinal in anyway? As it seems you've a vested interest in the place and non for the airport. Even though you happy to use it.

The airport company has to pay its way, eg pay its bills and so on otherwise it wouldn't exist to operate. Hence the reason for high car parking prices, Drop off/pick fees and charges for the baggage trolleys. All i bet the shops/cafes in te terminal make a nice revenue stream along with its deal with Arrow Taxis.

The Airport has to offer the airlines very good deals for them to use the airport, Low landing and passengers fees. So without charging the airlines more to use LBA how would you expect them to pay for further infrastructure improvements to the terminal building without building up further debt?

I am 100% certain that the would be less flights and destinations to choose from without them... Also anyone who runs a business is in it for the money, profit is an added bonus if you can make it.

Right for the avoidance of any doubt and whether you like it or not my first loyalty is to my wallet. Which is just the same as most punters visiting and/or passing through the place. You best not read what they say about the charges on various social media either. How the management choose to run their business is entirely a matter for them but equally its entirely a matter for those using their services as to whether they will pay the charges or seek other alternatives. Its called competition not charity.
I accept there are some people who seem to think the airport is a bit life and death ish, well it isnt to me its interesting but equally I can live without it, if it wasnt there. In short I`ll use it if it suits and I won`t if it doesnt. I hope that answers your questions

LBA is like most regional airports, certainly the smaller ones, in that the the only way they can operate viably is to make money on ancillary items such as parking and retail, given that low-cost airlines don't expect to pay much to operate. These airlines say they generate the footfall for the airports to sustain themselves by this ancillary revenue. It's a common complaint from many airport users that airports profiteer from car parking etc. My local airport is BRS and such complaints can be read in the local press or on social media sites every day.

I'm sure that paully, like most of us with an interest in aviation, is aware of many airports' business models these days but many others with no interest in the subject aren't. On more than one occasion I've tried to explain the rationale to critical acquaintances. In BRS's case I ask them whether they would prefer free drop-off and cheap parking along with expensive fares on the relatively few flights available, as was the case at BRS (and I suspect at LBA and other smaller airports) a couple of decades ago, or having to pay for drop-off, more expensive car parking with the trade-off of many more flights, frequencies and destinations at considerably cheaper fares these days.

My acquaintances took the point on most occasions but still wanted both, ie cheap drop-off and car parking, reasonable fares and a good network of flights, frequencies and destinations. It's human nature and I can't criticise. When my wife and I use BRS these days we usually go by a taxi other than the company accredited to the airport as it's usually cheaper and it's almost always a better deal than using the airport car park. At least our private taxi has to pay the airport a drop-off fee - we do really as it's part of the taxi fare.

Airports will either have to find a way of giving a better deal than off-site private car parks or live with the situation. At least the passengers using the off-site private car parks are using flights from the airport and helping to keep the airport's airlines and routes alive.

Retailing = options and choices for us all. I live next door so park in my drive but as we have bags we get a taxi round the corner to the terminal who add the drop off fee.
Happy to pay it as I want this place to grow and prosper so we can use it for visiting more diverse destinations.

Here`s the site..https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-airport-parking
Scroll down until you come to Travel Extras and go in from there.Covers all airports as well as seaports in the UK and does parking, hotels, lounges etc..Worth a look..You get more bang for your bucks

Very interesting Paully and thanks for flagging that site for us. Just checked it as I'm fying from Donny soon and their parking, via the Moneysaving expert site is £10 cheaper than the official airport site for my 1 week trip so I'll be booking through them shortly. Checked LBA too out of interest and Sentinel works out cheaper too. Go through the Moneysavingexpert site though as the Holiday Extras site doesn't give any discount if you book directly through them.

Thanks for the info 'airforced', just looked for my trip to the Netherlands in September to visit family and it saves me £8.40 for 7 days parking over booking direct with Sentinal. One thing however, it states that return flight delay cover insurance is £1.99 extra bookable at the time. As booking with Sentinal covers you automatically for flight delay, essential when booking a LBA flight as you are never sure which airport you are going to come back to due to weather, one assumes a booking through Holidays Extra does not cover for this. Does anyone know if this is the case otherwise it would not be offered.

Quite right. Whether the 'extras' offered during the booking process are necessary or just a ruse to get a bit more from you I'm not sure. The extra may or may not go to Sentinel! I've been a Sentinel user for many years and very happy indeed with the service they provide and, to be honest, for £8.40 I wouldn't bother . I'd just get my 10% off, or whatever it is, by booking direct via the web with them. However a point to consider when booking through such as Holiday Extras is the time window that you will be charged for whatever the times you submit.

Most car parking is charged in 24 hour periods therefore entering a much later time of leaving the car park possibly won't affect the price and may well cover for unexpected delays/diversions. I haven't tried it with Sentinel but I have looked at that for my upcoming trip from Donny and it holds true there. Just a thought. I've yet to decide whether to go via the Holiday Extras route or book direct and pay the £10 or so extra it would cost.

We were once delayed about 4 hours due to weather (november) while parked at Sentinal and booked through the Holiday Extras site but nothing extra was charged for the delay on that occasion.

Thanks for that info Paully. We had booked through Sentinal last September and we caught up in the Monarch collapse out in Portugal. Arrive back in the UK on one of the repatriation flights which went to Gatwick and then coach up to Leeds arriving some 10 hours later than originally planned. No charge from Sentinal for the delay so hopefully no surcharge if booked with Holiday Extras.

We are booked into the 1432 lounge for the 7th June, only ever been to LBA once and thought the Yorkshire lounge was shocking. I’m currently looking for parking for 17th sept for a week at LBA but can only find on site for £52 does anyone know any cheaper sites to look at that was through holiday extras x

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
