LPL just announced another new route this time to VIE with Laudamotion. Seemingly the giant shadow of MAN that apparently afflicts LBA doesn't extend to LPL. Sorry for the cynicism

Whilst I'm pleased to hear LPL has a new route / operator, I can tell you Manchester does affect Liverpool by the fact that both Ryanair and Easyjet have transferred popular and longstanding routes from LPL to MAN, Liverpool to Lisbon was a classic example. It's difficult to understand why they do this, but it's irritating done the less.

Carl points out perfectly the effect of MAN on LPL. And i have to say its probably not to our detriment that Locomotion (Laudamotion) have gone LPL. LPL/MAN are probably similar markets and they probably can't slots at MAN that they want. Hence MAN.

Manchester is the main reason ! Well established routes which attract yorkshire based passengers more and more.
We seem to think a new arrivals terminal will fix the problem but I believe it is too late.

LPL/MAN are the same markets, particularly for short haul such as Vienna. However Liverpool Airport has its own benefits over Manchester Airport such as speed and ease of use. Not withstanding the city has its own draw for inbound tourists which Laundamotion will no doubt be promoting. Therefore I don't think its a second choice that they have picked Liverpool at all.

As a Calderdale resident who lives even closer to MAN than South Bradford, I can assure you that LBA is definitely quicker and easier to get to. The main reason being, that whilst access is poor there are plenty of poor alternatives if something happens. So if there is an emergency event or an accident happens on one, you can get to another with minimal hassle. Previously, I lived with Scammonden in view and the amount of days when something happened was ridiculous- lorry fires, accidents, animals and unfortunately very frequent suicides off the bridge. Get yourself stuck in that and those better facilities, or greater range of flights may be the last thing on your mind, because you will be stuck in a queue that will be going nowhere and you likely won’t be flying anywhere either :)

Exactly my experience xboy999. I have yet to have a trouble free journey either to or from MAN when I have had to fly from there, or when picking up relatives. Every time I have hit traffic queues and been stuck. And as for the train, well that isn't immune either. Last Thursday I was in Manchester Piccadilly waiting to get the train back to Leeds and noted that 3 trains in a row to Manchester Airport were cancelled due to an earlier train breaking down and blocking the line. I wonder how many people were having panic attacks at their inability to get to the airport. LBA's road links are poor. We all know that and hopefully they will improve in the coming years, but, there are numerous different ways to circumvent any traffic issues and still get to the airport in reasonable time. Get stuck on the M62 in the wrong place and there are no such options. You have no choice but to sit there and wait...……..and hope.

To add to that White Heather, I was on Garforth station on Saturday and the 13:27 to Manchester Airport was showing cancelled due to staff shortage...as was the one going to Middlesbrough off the other platform. The 13:15 to Leeds was pretty packed out as a result, but was thankfully an ex-ScotRail 170, so there was enough room to soak up the extra punters.

I’m hoping the terminal works can be completed and embedded before the Transpennine upgrade which is promising some even worse journey times during the works. LBA will look even more attractive!

Yes, you can set off to LBA with some certainty that you will arrive there at your planned time. Not so with Manchester as others have commented. I always allow far more time to get to Manchester than in theory needed, just in case. The M62 must have one of the worst records for accidents, delays and closures.

Sadly an awful lot of yorkshire people do go to fly on holidays and business from Manchester regardless of the travel problems you people point out. I pay £70 for two people to be picked up in Yeadon and taken to Ringway and the same to collect us and bring us home
at the end of our trip.

The m62 is a nightmare anytime of day now and that even includes the middle of the night when reg it’s closed for roadwork repairs. It’s an absolute nightmare, heavy volume of traffic that stops and starts, you get moving and before you know it you come to a stop again and if your v.unlucky total gridlock. Lba for me anyway!

Rumour on another forum suggest Jet2 are to announce 2 new routes for summer 2020 from several bases included from Leeds to Zadar in Croatia and Preveza in Greece..
I wouldn't at all be surprised if theses routes are started using the Boeing 737-300s out of LBA.

Been saying to "Bigman" for a while now that Zadar has been on the destination to watch list...

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
