Leeds Bradford: Ryanair Flights, New Routes & Base Updates

I would love to see a route to Romania personally. I was looking for flights to Bucharest at New Year and there is a huge gap in flights to here from most airports in the UK.

I would have thought that Ryanair would have started Madrid, Bremen, Oslo Torp and Hahn in their first batch of routes from LBA and not so many in direct competition with Jet2, i.e Venice, Pisa. Also surprised at the French routes announced but no German routes! However there is scope for expansion with Ryanair and room for Jet2 at LBA, I think they will still thrive with such a vast catchment area and bring in further numbers from DTV and DSA areas too, plus some from over the Pennines who traditionally would use MAN.

Hi,

Ryanair 2010 LBA flights are listed on page 7 of this forum thanks to lbaspotter. Presumably taken from the RYR timetable? I can only count 62 returns. The media blurb / press release all stated 63 weekly returns. Can anyone offer an explanation?

I would not be surprised if we do not see any extra RYR services announced from LBA until the new base is up and running despite what was said regarding the pull out from MAN. 1. Ryanair will check level of demand for the new base first. 2. Additional services may not be part of the initial fixed agreement with the airport due to limited space during terminal development and possibly protection of existing routes run by other airlines from the airport.

I could be wrong though!

Medium and long term though I think it is incredibly good news to have RYR on board at the airport. They offer very low fares which attracts passengers. They will fly to destinations that other airlines cannot.

Looking forward to next summer already.

Sorry guys, but not everyone knows all the airport codes - which is SNN. Is it Shannon? If so, I don't think its a route we wanted anyway. I am sure that Hahn and Brussels would be far more use, along with Marseilles. I would also like FR to re-introduce Madrid in time too as I b elieve it actually did well with Jet2 in terms of loads.

Why do you think FR are not announcing any of their other routes yet? Is this reason to worry a little, as they may be thinking no more routes from LBA, so close after their announcement of base and first batch of routes?

Ryanair cancelled almost all its flights from Manchester, moving many services to Leeds/Bradford in a row over airport charges".. Still not heard which routes if any yet, Does anybody else know of any yet?

It is but I think most of the business is from South East/ London, also its a main transit airport for S. American routes not operated from Uk e
E.G Lima/ Quito/ Recife.

No flights have been 'transferred' to Leeds as yet.

When Ryanair said they were cancelling the MAN services they said

- some routes would be transferred to other airports
- some routes would be cancelled
- some passengers would be re-accommodated airports

This is exactly what they have done.

Bremen was transferred to LPL
Shannon was transferred / re-accommodated to LPL
Milan re-accommodated to LPL/EMA
Girona - re-accommodated to LBA / LPL / EMA
Frankfurt - cancelled
Brussels - cancelled
Cagliari - cancelled
Weeze - cancelled
Marsailles - cancelled

We'll have to see whether the cancelled routes are permanently cancelled or whether they make an appearance after the winter season

Frankfurt, Cagliari, and Marsailles could of worked i believe. Obviously, FR think they aren't worthwhile operating from LBA, or with the 14 new route announcement think thats enough for now, maybe to see how well they perform in the early stages. Anyone know how bookings have been going for the new routes?

Ryanair are to hold a meeting with the airport next week to discuss, how the airport can cope with their new operations, and also to see if their initial start date of March 2010 can be brought forward?
(personally i would of thought seeing if the airport can cope would of allready been disscussed at length)

i would have thought that this had been discussed before , i flew from leeds a fortnight ago and the airport was packed nowhere to sit and queues everywhere never seen the airport as busy ( not bad for a tuesday) so i dont know how the terminal building will go on when ryan air increase there flights next year?

Panorama will be featuring Ryanair this evening at 8:30pm on BBC1. They requested permission to film at LBA but it was denied by the airport management (as you would rightfully expect) Hopefully there wont be any undercover filming shown in the report but it's the one to watch tonight.

Was great to see the young lad Alex Reid appearing in the programme, pro ryanair! He attends the local Aviation Academy College at the Southside aviation centre and aparently MOL has emailed him sicne his appearance...maybe offering him a free flight or two...who knows?

Clearly somebody at the BBC has a real dislike for Ryanair. This documentry told us little we did not already know about the airline. Yes they have lots of cheeky charges along the way when you book, drinks and food have to be purchased onboard at a premium & yes they drop airports like a sack of poo if they need to - its called business!

However, when you offer consistently low ticket prices on your routes that come to a fraction of what the other carriers offer for a so called "full service" ; which is increasingly not much of a service at all these days you can quite frankly get away with these add on charges. At the end of the dayt the ticket is still cheaper.

Its A to B, it does exactly what it says on the tin & his business format works.

If anything, the documentary made me more pro Ryanair and Mr O and more annoyed that License fee payers money went towards making this petty show.

On another note, Ryanair have introduced a new procedure to all their inbound aircraft arrivals. From now on, all prams, wheelchairs and other mobility aids have to be delivered to the bottom of the steps by the handling agent, before the passengers disembark and before the rest of the holds are emptied.

I just wonder if this will slow down the turnaround? 25 minutes is bad enough anyway on a full ALC turnaround!

This i would say is a nice gesture and a good service to introduce.

For a start, Mobility aids, walking frames and passenger owned wheelchairs should never be thrown onto a luggage belt. They often get damaged as they are treat just like bags and they can and do frequently get stuck causing huge problems for everyone. These are expensive items and this should be something that is done for all flights.

With regards to pushchairs, trying to carry or get a small child to walk any distance after a flight is hard work. Ryanair seldom use airbridges at any airport and as a result, a long walk or bus trip then a walk is often the case.

This little gesture will go a long way for an airline that is rarely known for its customer service. Not to mention, it will cut down complaints and needless damage to peoples belongings.

In terms of slowing things down, only if people let it. These items should be the last in the hold so the first out and a 2 minute job.
