Leeds Bradford: Ryanair Flights, New Routes & Base Updates

I'd love to think this is the beginning of Ryanair's new cuddly, helpful to passengers image but their track record suggests to an old cynic like me that there must be something in it for them.

However, my knowledge of airfield operational procedures is nil so I have no idea what it might be.

Actually WYIA, I would think you are right about it being a 2 minute job. I am sure Ryanair would not event consider it if it was likely to delay a turnaround.

I do think it is purely to cut down complaints from less able bodied pax, regarding damage to their belongings, having to walk long distances from the aircraft & hey getting your own wheelchair to the aircraft side instead of waiting for the airport wheelchair service to arrive lol.... that will deffo speed things up & give Mr O a quick turn for his flights.

I agree with you there, there have been so many times where wheelchairs and prams get "jammed" on the baggage belt, and cause a barrier, allowing other bags to fall off the carousel inside the terminal. As for them being last on, first off...that is usually the case if they are "gate pieces", but if they have been checked in with luggage they can sometimes be found at the back of the aircraft hold.

I guess it will be trialed for a period first to see any effects on TA times.

Have FR given the airport an actual date does anyone know, for the start of their new base operation, or have they just left it as "March" for now, as i see other airports are now beginning to see when their destinations start?

If you look at the airport web site (timetable) and ignore the fact that it is so out of date it is an embarrassment, you will find that most of the new Ryanair routes are now listed in the winter timetable and most appear to start around the 23 March (or that week). I am not sure if the frequency shown is just for what's left of the winter season or whether some flights have been reduced in frequency. Some routes (eg Malta) are just shown as one day only, but that could be because the following week is the beginning of the Summer timetable and the other days the routes operate fall into the new Summer timetable.

Anyway, the start dates are shown for most, if not all, the new routes. Don't bother to look at the summer 2010 timetable though as it is total rubbish and is just a re-print of 2009 at the moment. It is clear that Bridgepoint see this web site as unimportant and seem content to show flights operating that don't, whilst others that do are not yet shown at all. It really is poor!

Thanks for the direction, ive just looked at the timetable, and noticed the once weekly MLA flight. Another thing i noticed was FR wasnt down to operate any IBZ flights, with this being one of their new destinations, im guessing as you say its down to an error, more and more we see nowadays with the LBA website!

If you check the Ryanair website and try booking IBZ for instance the date start is March 27 I think, then try other destinations and they are all around that week.

I think Mr Oleary needs to concentrate on getting his customer service reputation cleaned up before he starts waggling his finger at airlines he thinks are struggling, it's probably more a case of " hope" as opposed to "think".

That feature in the Timeonline site really annoyed me. Not only are Monarch the longest running British Airline in history but they are also an excellent airline from a customers perspective and Ryanair could do with taking quite a few leafs from their customer training manuals.

If there was another poll for people to vote for the next airline they would like to see fold, I wonder who would win that ??

I agree, although I think you will find that whilst Paddy Power is a name for Mr O Leary that I find amusing, it is actually the betting company, that has started taking bets on the next airline to go bust, not Mr O'Leary.

I am sure a lot of people would have Ryanair on their list of airlines that they would like to go to the wall, although I wouldn't as it would have a huge negative impact on so many people, and LBA too. In fact I hate seeing any airline go bust, which is why I, like you, get really angry at this sort of thing. After the last couple of weeks with Easyjet cancelling so many flights whilst other airlines just got on with it as best they could, I would imagine that they have slipped down the popularity standings with passengers too.

SkyEurope and Globespan were 2 relatively new carriers that came into the industry at a particularly tough time, I think his bet was more of " educated guess" so I don' think he deserves any brownie points for that.

When I worked for B.A I remember lots of rumours flying around that he gave B.A a couple of years, that never happened and never will.

I think Mr O'leary is suffering from " God complex" at the moment.

He should be thankful that people still fly with Ryanair, or maybe take another bet on how many people avoid flying Ryanair.

I know Mr O Leary is no angel, but it wasn't him that quoted the odds on airlines going bust, it was Paddypower, the betting company. I suggest we lay off Mr O Leary or he may decide not to open an LBA base after all!!! :sad:

I`vw flown with ryanair a number of times and have found that the web site was easy to navigate, easy to book and really cheap flights too if you were prepared to fly at ungodly hours ect.

the staff were hepfull when i missed my flight and the aircraft were new and clean.

all in all a good experience and i will deff be travelling with them in the future when they come to lba.

People have alot to say about Mr O, and generally thats they way it goes. people dont like it when someone is succesful in life and has a wining formula.

end of the day, you get what you pay for. If you think your going to get hot towels and pillows then your going to have a shock, because the vodka comes in a ketchup sachet & its everyman for themselves on the seats.

embrace it or get left behind, because Mr O is not "lucky people still fly with him", people are lucky they have the chance to fly because of the airline he operates.

Has anyone knowledge of the timetable from March 28 since previous ones posted needed 3 aircraft at certain times? I may be wrong, but I think that they are trying to attract the passenger bookings and see which flights need to be "re-timetabled" to enable a 2 aircraft base.

The times which involve a third aircraft will be with non based aircraft.

Ryanair's initial timetables are often for entertainment purposes only.

The last time I checked the Bristol FR timetable for summer 10 it showed a need for seven based aircraft for much of the week, despite the fact that the airline has so far said there will only be five - this takes into account rotations to be operated by non-based aircraft.

In fact, this is timetable version 2. Already five routes that were open for sale until a few weeks ago have been axed but additional ones have now replaced them still leaving a requirement for five based aircraft.

I haven't looked at FR's LBA summer 10 timetable in detail so can't comment on it but nothing would surprise me.

I think FAO is going to be operated by a non based unit now, in addition to the others. This may have been one issue when looking at the current timetable.
