Why do I have to work on Friday? Is it still scheduled for a 6am arrival or will it be put back to a more media friendly 9ish? Suppose the other side of the equation has to be what the forward bookings for Cathay Pacific are. If they are still as high as they currently are achieving then that should be a major achievement for a "regional" airport;there was always potential for some CX traffic to operate onto mainland China. In hindsight, it may just be a blessing that Shanghai has been put back into the pending tray rather than announced as it ought to allow a bit of bedding in time for both the Beijing and Hong Kong routes to co-exist rather than splitting the Chinese market.

The Far East market looks set to heat up over the next 18-24 months with a number of new or improved services planned or mooted. It should not be forgotten that it is a large and increasing market (esp China) and also contains a decent amount of "inbound".

As well as Hainan going daily and introducing a new service to Xi'an, Air China (Shaghai) and China Eastern (Guangzhou) are in the wings.

Cathay Pacific seem to want to go at least daily, and Singapore Airlines seem to want to go non stop again. I doubt we'll see JAL, TG or MH in this climate, but Norwegian and others might offer more routes...

Looks good. Do any other non-EU airlines have an office in Manchester?

I suspect the likes of Singapore, Cathay, Emirates,Qatar,
American, United, Delta may concentrate on London but Etihad?

Emirates and Etihad have large offices and contact centres in Manchester. A lot of the European back office functions for Etihad are in Manchester.

BA citiflyer are based in Didsbury despite having no routes from MAN.

I believe Biman also kept their Manchester office despite pulling the route.

In terms of Hainan, this lease is 5 years, then they are moving to airport city, obviously not constructed yet.

Hainan have also carried nearly 2000 passengers on the first 4 flights, meaning average load of 250. Not bad considering Mr Kehoe said the flights 'are probably empty'. I'd normally rant but let's face it, MAN are having the last laugh really.

Hellloooooo...Earth to Paul. Come in Paul. Why should the MAN flights be empty and BHX successful? He's reflecting badly on the West Midlands and making us look like bad losers...sour grapes and all that jazz. Honestly I don't get his behaviour and I'm a Brummie.

That's the thing JFY,

He does sound so bitter, despite trying to claim he is not. He is still unable to substantiate he's £12m subsidy claim, and he just looks a twazzock.

But, like I say, MAN having the last laugh, if 250 per flight is 'empty' by Kehoes standards, love to see what full looks like

The fundamental reality is that Manchester is a similar sized economy to Birmingham. However, MAN can also draw on Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Stoke and Newcastle (and also parts of the East Midlands). Crucially, MAN is also too far away from LHR for much leakage.

I think there is a market for China services to BHX and MAN, but geography plays a role that is difficult to change.

I notice on the Movements thread it's reported that tomorrow sees the first Hainan A332.
In the absence of CAA stats, do we know how loads have been holding up and what current bookings are looking like?

Average load is reported to be about 91% give or take. Forward bookings are around the 80-85% mark up until Jan but Cargo holding up incredibly well.

The load factors seems extremely encouraging for a new long haul route. I think the appearance of the 332 is nothing but an ad-hoc change, however I would be more than happy with a 788/332 operating on a 5 weekly or daily basis.
