If I remember correctly, the go round was from the first approach on 32. Listening to ATC on the radio, it was an intended go round, to help the Captain gauge the effect of the wind. then land on the second approach. I maybe wrong, but it is nearly 40 years ago.

As I said yesterday, it wasn't a go around, it was a fly past. A go around is an aborted landing. We were told before it arrived that it would do a fly past first. Plus of course it did also give the crew an opportunity to guage the cross wind.

Few images from the past, i actually purchased these photos from the old air supply shop in yeadon, so I've had to take a pic of the photos with my fone, the quality may be a little poor

I must say the 3rd photo is fairly special as it shows a boeing 707, dc9 and if you look closely in the background a balkan TU154 on taxi, imagine the noise and sound of these 3 beauties! very late 80s/1990 i believe

Lovely to see the Nationair DC8 63, especially as they normally used a 757 on the Toronto route.
Fairly sure that Wardair operated regularly from Summer 1985 until 1989 when they were taken over, then it was Odyssey International for a year, then Nationair, so those photos might be summer 1991.

I was only a little one at the time but remember seeing the nationair dc8 just the once, from memory i believe id just arrived at the view point when it was departing. I have a pic of the odyssey 757 plus many more which i will post.

I managed to avoid seeing every DC8 to visit LBA, which remains an annoyance to this day. We only had a few but always when at work.

Aviaco turned up twice with an ex-Saudia DC8-63 in 1986. One time in lieu of the Sunday Iberia A300 and another time doing a DC9 job on a Thursday or Friday in October.

To show your image full sized, open your image from your Attachment Manager (or Image library) then right click on your image and choose 'Copy Image Link'. Click on the 'Insert Image' icon and select 'By URL'. Paste the link into the box and click 'Insert'. This should show your image full sized, as below -

You should be able to link from the Media tab to this thread.

In the Media tab, click on the photo you want to link to so that it opens full size.
Right click on the photo and choose 'Copy Image Link'.
Return to the LBA Nostalgia thread and select the 'Insert Image' icon from above the window where you would normally post new text.. This will open a small window with two choices. Choose the icon on the right called 'By URL' and paste the link you copied into the text window and click 'Insert'. The photo should show full size in the LBA Nostalgia thread.

You can of course add text as normal, if you want to give any info about your photos.

Thank you Kevin, I somehow got there!

The Concorde weekends were certainly special. If I remember correctly, British Airways originally stated that even the extended runway was still too short for Concorde operations, but they were rather shamed by Air France and all operations post Air France were by BA. Typically a weekend would consist of a subsonic flight between Heathrow and LBA and one LBA to Heathrow, with a more more expensive option of a supersonic blast over The North Sea, from and to LBA between. The above photos show Concordes arriving and departing runway 32.

This British Airways 747 turned up unexpectedly for the shooting of a promotional film, I think in the late 1980s. As I recall, it did several touch and goes and even a very low pass with the undercarriage up. Sadly, this sort of thing never seems to happen these days!

The 747 was flown by Cpt Mike Webster, who came from Roundhay. The same guy who flew in the first BA747
(G-AWNA, Spirit of Yorkshire, later re-named City of Leeds) on 4th November 1984 to mark the opening of the runway extension.
Originally the flight, which was a publicity and advertising shoot for the new Landor livery, was due to be undertaken at Prestwick, but unfortunately for them and luckily for us, Prestwick was foggy that Saturday, so being a Leeds lad, Cpt Webster headed South with the publicity entourage.
It still vexes me that on that day I was playing golf so saw nothing of the repeated approaches and go arounds past my house, but somewhat fortunately, the golf course was Roundhay, and golf had to stop for a while when the 747 appeared overhead Roundhay Park and proceeded to do numerous circuits overhead whilst being filmed from a helicopter. Spectacular. It was said by the airport CEO that this was done to provide a flying show for Cpt. Webster's Mum who still lived in Roundhay and was watching from her garden.
After this event, many of the BA adverts on TV and in publications featured shots taken at LBA or whilst flying in the Leeds area. For me, the Landor livery remains one of the best ever.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
