Any photos of air south west who flew to Newquay I believe it was? nice colours on their aircraft!

Dash 8 300 G-WOWE taken on 11 May 2006. The two principal routes were Leeds to Newquay via Bristol, and Manchester to Plymouth via Bristol. These flights were on the ground together at Lulsgate to facilitate passenger interchange, eg LBA-BRS-PLH or MAN-BRS-NQY.

If i remember correctly the Air Southwest morning rotation WOW482/483 use to work Newuqay-Bristol-Leeds-Bristol-Plymouth whilst the evening rotation WOW486/487 worked the opposite Plymouth-Bristol-Leeds-Bristol-Newquay.
As has been previously mentioned passengers could connect at Bristol onto Newquay in the morning or onto Plymouth in the evening vis-versa by getting onto or off the aircraft that did the Manchester service.2006_0504_12.JPG

Nobody is going bonkers as we all have good memories, just that things were changed sometime through Air Southwest's operation at LBA. I've just unearthed a couple of their timetables from my collection and in the Summer of 2006 LBA-BRS-PLH either way in the morning or LBA-BRS-NQY either way in the latter half of the day were listed. In the 2007/8 winter however, all flights from Yorkshire read LBA-BRS-NQY with a change down route if you required PLH. The cheery Cornwall based crews were a regular sight at LBA.

I was a fan of that colour scheme, what happened to air southwest?

Air South West was sold by its owners Sutton Harbour Holdings to Eastern Airways in 2010. Eastern carried on with most of the routes for the next ten months before closing the airline and transferring the remaining aircraft to its own airline. Three months later Plymouth Airport, operated by Sutton Harbour Holdings under a very long lease from Plymouth City Council, was closed using a so-called 'Armageddon clause' in their agreement that few people reportedly knew about. PLH remains closed to this day although there is a group in being that still hopes to reopen it one day.

These pictures remind me of the time, probably in the mid 80's, when I wrote to the airport and asked if they did tours of the airport.
They kindly replied back saying generally no however if I could go early evening someone would give me a tour round. I readily responded and made arrangements. An airport employee took me 'everywhere', the main terminal building, check in areas etc, even the Fire Station, but also and a great highlight a visit to the Control Tower. I watched as the controllers monitored the arrival of a few aircraft but especially when someone announced that the BM DC9 was entering the radar somewhere nearish Manchester and then pointed it out when about 30 miles away. When it came nearer I was able to put on Headphones and listen in as they brought it in to land. So the pictures brought back that interesting LBA visit. Many thanks. Years earlier I knew someone who worked at Heathrow and he arranged for 3 of us to visit the CT at Heathrow. Again another fascinating visit.

Great shots, thanks for sharing these. Control tower visits are rare, but always good. Being an active members an interest group often gets you in to places that you might not expect. I have organised quite a few visits over the last 10 years or so, and have a couple on the back burner for this year (when things get back to normal).

I remember seeing the Odyssey 757 (later Nationair) and Air 2000 737 several times. I think the latter was only with A2K for one season - British Midland took it eventually.

It's nice to see this thread alive and kicking once again. That's for sharing the photos all.

Does anybody remember the name of the air traffic controller in the tower pictures?

Isn't that side where the ATC assistant sits with the controller on the left?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
