Flew on Alpha India to Goa in 1997.
She was in Caledonian colours by then.
Beautiful aircraft to fly in.
Didn't get to see the reg until we disembarked and then recounted the tale of the Yeadon incident to my Mrs - she was glad I'd found out after the flight!!

I remember being in the local snooker club with the Dunkeswick crash happened. It was on the news on the radio they had behind the bar.

It was longer than six weeks. I was back at school when it left for Gatwick so at least September. I remember the departure was on Radio Leeds.
Oldendays, was it back at school after the springbank holidays which is this week and therefore 6 weeks to go until summer holidays?

Definitely September from my memory in fact it was late September maybe someone might have a log from then

Correct, Just been looking in some old Air Yorkshire Magazines and it has listed the British Airtours L1011 Tristar, G-BBAI actually leaving Leeds/Bradford for London Gatwick at 08:22 on Friday, September 27th, 1985. She did come back visiting on Monday 30th operating the weekly KT101/100 from/to Palma charter

Maybe it was 16 weeks not 6. I knew it came back the week after it left though. So did the crew and they did better second time around.

My earlier post on the easyJet thread brought back happy memories of my younger days as a spotter at LBA!
My first flight from the airport, to Lisbon was certainly eventful.
Due to the route distance and the then short (5400 ft runway) at Leeds, we were due to fly via Cardiff, which I was looking forward to (parents not so!!)
However, the day of the flight must have been the coldest August day I'd known, heavy rain and very low cloud.
Our flight was due to depart in the late afternoon and whilst listening to my airband radio earlier in the morning, I quickly learned that a BMA Viscount had aquaplaned whilst landing on Runway 33 (32) and run on to the grass close to the end of runway - consequently part of the runway was not in use.
We arrived at LBA just in time to see the aircraft being towed to the big black hanger that used to reside next to the terminal building.
With low cloud still hanging over the airport another Britannia flight made a couple of valiant attempts at landing on 33, but gave up and diverted to EMA.
Fortunately, our Britannia 737 got in on Runway 15 (14) at the first attempt, no ILS on 15 & RVR was 600m!
We departed more or less on time, but due to the cold weather, managed to fly direct to LIS much to parents delight & my dismay!
Take off on 15 was like being in a rocket!!!

Welcome to Forums4airports @Sunseekers1990

There are some pictures within the Media here. Here's one just with a quick search but I know there are more. It was such a shame Sunseekers didn't make it. They gave Leeds a real push with the destinations they operated, some I don't think have operated since but I'm sure would given the chance.

One memory I have was when the 737 in my photo, G-BNNJ I think, somehow managed to make an approach one misty Sunday morning, for a Runway 32 landing, but descended around 1 Mile to the East of the glideslope. That took it directly over my house in Moseley Wood Green.
I couldn't believe it when I looked out to see a 737 descending towards my house and it continues to descend beyond it, before finally pulling up over Pounds Farm which was behind my house.
Ten minutes later it made a normal Runway 32 approach and landed safely.
Such a shame Sunseekers went under. They introduced destinations in Greece for LBA that we had never dreamed of at the time.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
