LBA is 91 years old today. Happy birthday LBA!

History of the airfield;

Yorkshire Aeroclub had both LBA as we know it and Sherburn Aeroclub as we know it.

They choose the sight at LBA to develop into an airport. Amazing if history had been different.

Also very interesting to note; from the warehouses opposite the terminal and right under the airfield/White House lane is a defunct tunnel wide and tall enough to accommodate aircraft. They used to build aircraft in WW2 in the weapons factory then move them over to the airfield under this tunnel. On top were cardboard cows etc to make it look to the germans it was just another landing strip surrounded by countryside to those germans.

I have just posted publicly available minutes from a special meeting of the DSA Consultative Committee, held in September, on the DSA thread. Worth a read.

Just posting here as the minutes confirm that LBA have offered interviews for DSA staff who are losing their jobs due to the closure. LBA haven't been shouting this from the rooftops but it's not just the MAG making this offer.

DSA was fearured on the steven and anne show on GB news this morning, apparently they will be around 1000 members of the public marching to try keep the airport open, The issue is now as we know all the airlines have already moved out of DSA which is obviously good for our airport but bad for donny. LBA actually got a positive review by presenter steve commenting on how regional airports are so much better compared to say MAN.

Course they’re better, they are less busy so invariably easier to use. This is the problem with the media, quiet airports with no queues don’t necessarily provide well financially for the owners, which is the fundamental problem that absolutely nobody except for Peel ever seems to consider.

PIA are hoping to get their ban to flying to Europe lifted at a meeting in brussels this week

Goods news for PIA but given PIA stopped flights to LBA before the ban I don't think it improves prospects for a resumption of flights to LBA.

Of course it did, in true Finger66 fashion I was fishing for one, but it’s all good fun. But getting back on topic, thinking back 24, or even 12, months we would happily take where LBA is again. LBA needs to concentrate on LBA and no one else, regardless of whether it’s great to be higher in the table or not

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
