Agreed, so question is will this deter new airlines until fully complete? But I suppose, if like Wizz, they can operate at quieter Terminal times then there could be some increase for 2024. Will certainly be disappointed if nothing happening by 2025. Another way to look at this upgrade is that if LBA had never even suggested a brand new terminal then I suspect we would all be jumping through hoops at this

If we were getting the originally proposed new #terminal we would still have to wait for its completion to benefit from the new facilities.

I expect we will see the building of the new arrival and departure lounge facilities commence later this year hopefully by July as mentioned by @Easy289 later followed by the terminal #refurbishment work to be completed by summer 2025.

I've tried to find the information again but I can't remember where I put it, but the check-in hall A refurbishment taking place now has a capacity of I think of in the region of 4.5m on its own. In a conversation with former airport boss Hywel Rees he said check in hall B had the ability to process the entire airport passenger throughput. Once the new arrivals facility opens the main bottleneck will become the security screening area.

You can't alter the exterior shape of the building with an internal refurbishment. I'd like to think they could move the narrow channel through Duty Free but they would need to build a new air traffic control tower first. The sort of refurbishment we are talking about is likely to involve a completely new layout. Nothing will be left untouched. Escalators will go, new escalators will appear that kind of thing.

No.
That would require another planning application and present another opportunity for those who shall never be mentioned to stick their oar in yet again, with more delays. It's an internal reconfiguration as stated by Aviador.

If the white area to the front was included in the plans then we would have a pretty decent looking terminal with plenty more space inside, but hey this is LBA.

The Labour controlled council with a planning panel containing members of Labour and Conservative councillors wanted rid of it and they were keen to see the old terminal gone. The Conservative government backed by Labour MPs were working hard to stop the plans. It was a political shitshow but we are where we are.

In respect of the current upgrade to hall A, i do somewhat question the worth of this, based on the claim that hall B apparently has the capacity to handle all LBAs departures (whether that would be up to 6.8m pax, I'm unsure). I was under the impression that the eastern end of the terminal is to be arrivals orientated and the western end departures orientated. Hall A is somewhat impinging on the arrivals end, is it not? Would LBA not be better focusing on Hall B as the sole check in hall and utilising Hall A for other purposes?

It also depends on the way the Planning officer presented the plans and how persuasive he was. Since the Councillors became paid for their services, they know a lot about everything and a lot about nowt- more about party dogmar really

Well listening to Ed Milliband on R4 this morning I hope for the airports sake there isn't a change of government before the works are completed.

Definitely not forgetting him, but the underlying Tory policies are much more favourable to aviation and business in general than the Labour ones.

I wouldn't put anything past the Labour party. I can see them announcing a national aviation policy stopping all expansion and capping flights at current levels.

Politics aside I'm just looking forward to seeing some visuals of the redevelopment. I hope they can come up with some decent fly-through images so we can see what we can expect.

The wood panels in check in hall A are looking nice although there have already been some deviations from the illustrations with the floor to ceiling pillars being clad with wood instead of white curved panels. It still looks very nice, almost 60's esq
