Sorry for underplaying this yesterday, of course it is very serious, but the usual feeding frenzy and sensationalist headlines from the BBC and others of 'bankrupt Birmingham' (not even Birmingham City Council) really annoys me.

These are the statements people believe, rather than the detail. It is shoddy journalism...and I have to say this, bit of Brum bashing sitting behind it. Even to the extent of some bloke saying we should not have hosted the Games last year. Only took a few hours for that one to emerge...yawn yawn....big picture etc.

Forward is our proud motto and forward we shall go....and if it is any comfort, New York City was once bankrupt.

Nice but I'd like it to be a little taller. It feels to me as if Ora should be the baseline height for this area with everything else gradually stepping up. Around 170-180m would have been nice.

Totally agree mate, can't be long until those 4 white council blocks get the bulldozer. Sorry peeps who live in them as it can't be far away until they come down, what do you think ?

Apparently it's called "Gentrification" ?

I know they're taller and therefore more people live in them, but there's not been any talk on the Sentinels being demolished, and the council blocks slightly further out in Ladywood were only relatively recently re-clad, so not sure why the 4 between City Centre Gardens and the canal would be demolished.

I'd like to see a canal side development with a couple of towers in the 170-200m+ range with plenty of leisure at ground level, kind of acting as an extension of Brindleyplace and the NIA area.

I'd definitely keep the park on the other side to the canal. I could just imagine lazing on a sunny afternoon with some nice shiny towers on one side, the library on the other and Octagon and Ora at the end. It could be something quite special.

But Ladywood is to be demolished to make way for new housing and new estate, so these could well be included, maybe in 5/10 years time.

Gentrification displaces existing communities. Bad. We need to get the balance right. The Manhatten approach disregards the poorer in favour of fat profit and speculative vacant homes. We never want to be associated with that...Nine Elms springs to mind. Yuk. Keep the towers and the residents to be part of the boom and benefits from the UKs fastest growing economy.
