Short of stands and 3 are out of action. Is this part of what LBA are saying when they can make more available (exc LS baggage on stand 2). I am sure there are reasons for what has been done but on the face of it it doesn’t seem to make much logical sense to me, but then I don’t know enough about it all

Space is and always has been a premium for anything at LBA. In order to improve one side of the operation it was feasible to loose the stands previously.

Given the cost of creating a stand, it appears management have seen the light and are making sensible decisions to use them for their intended purpose when parking space is becoming an issue.
Albeit some time before we see a terminal extension, this will cater for some of the facilities they are looking to move from structures built on stands.

Are they seriously having no ceiling with all the pipes and ventilation visible!! It looks absolutely awful like the workmen aint finished the job off. It works in a building with a high ceiling but no way in our terminal, no no!
1970s style wood finish, modern bag drop tech and an unfinished roof, whatever next!

It’s actually a rather modern approach in my opinion. Also visible pipes and ventilation is common in most venues I visit. Personally I think it’s a vast improvement and I like the new look.

Wood is beautiful yes if used correctly and not next to a load of ventilation pipes!
No pleasing some folk. Ceiling in and it's a low and claustrophobic,
no ceiling means exposed ventilation which is quite common these days as a means of brightening it up. The wood finish is back in vogue again. Sorry but that's what your getting,, like it or not. The ventilation cannot be removed so it's one or the other.

I like the industrial feel. Most people don't/won't look up.
Most buildings with exposed pipe work etc have been designed to be like this from scratch eg T5 at LHR and carry it off quite well. However they tend to be larger buildings where the exposed elements are quite a long way away so that all the accumulated dust can't been seen. I personally think a ceiling would have been better aesthetically and would have provided far fewer cleaning challenges. The wood is contemporary but given the lack of space and relatively little natural light I think a lighter decor would have been better. Having said that what we now have is better than before!

I'd agree if a building is designed that way it can usually pull it off. In this instance, certainly with it all lit up, it feels unfinished IMHO.

Perhaps a better way to go, and it would match with the wood finish, would be to have a false ceiling like the picture below:

Still get some sense of openness, but looks a little more finished.

It is what it is however.

Looks to me that the column cladding and the back wall are fitted with timber slats to give acoustic absorption. Slats are fixed to a perimeter frame with a stretched fleece, which is what you can see between them, and behind all that will be a Rockwool or similar to absorb sound energy. This may have been necessary due the removal of the ceiling. I may be wrong, but I think that's the reason for using timber!

Yes, I like that suggestion.

Much better option than the bland openess of pipework and other clutter. Use the same wood as used on the columns and it would finish to job off giving us a very smart check-in all.

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
