The Council would be crazy to refuse, but Leeds Council has done crazy things before relating to Airport development. What are the odds that they use this applicaton as a means of getting their own way with regard to the taxi rank on Whitehouse Lane??

They live with the green gang. By the way the most hypcritical people around. "save our planet save the airports, don't go on holiday" ... "oh theres a cheap £19.99 flight to ibiza lets jump aboard and go on holiday for a week".

This airport is needing it, wanting it and should get it. I'd like to see FR, and Jet2 also putting pressure on this crappy labour ran council should they refuse.

Danby will remain there. Just using the back of food village for a bigger kitchen i believe.
WHSmith will keep their outlet but cut down as the newer shop should take much of the customers and that will be seen as a last minute type shop or a quieter. Opposite is where the glass lift shall be placed.
I'm not sure whats happening with regards to the duty free i would presume bigger seating area. However there is alot of the old terminal so i'd really hope they do revamp this.

thanks for posting the picture update - it's coming along nicely. How many shops will there be in the completed retail zone?

I'm assuming that when the food area is upstairs, all the down stairs will be seating and gate areas - if so, is this area expanding too; or still in the same footplate?

How many shops?

Well, you probably mean high street shops? From the summer holidays located in the departure lounge there will be WHSmith's(2), Superdrug(1), Camden Foods(1 maybe 2) and Burger King(1) along with airport brands such as the World Duty Free shop(1 maybe 2) that replaces the Alpha Duty Free shop, Danby Bar(1) and the Saltaire Bar(1).

I agree but it's down to 'critical mass' not just space available. Throughout the summer months a Dixon or Tie Rack store might work fine but they need to be able to see through the quieter winter months too. I think LS16 quoted a requirement of 4 MPPA before that's achievable when this question was asked once before.

Work is being carried out on widening the apron so the apron road can be pushed out to enable the walkway to be constructed.

Work is progressing well in the terminal. The area where the former food village was has been stripped ready for the new Camden Food fittings, likewise the flooring has now been stripped in the Burger King area ready for re-laying. Work is steadily moving into the main departure lounge area and it's looking like the first floor bar will be shutting imminently with ceiling tiles now removed at the top of the escalators in departures. I'm not sure about how the raised ceiling will look with all the air conditioning vents and cable in full view?

Those unsure about the location, to the left of the picture is where passengers will come from. Passengers will have already passed Travelex, Burger King, Camden Foods, World Duty Free, Superdrug and WhSmith's. (in that order) The Saltaire will be the last retail unit before they head down the glass lift or escalator to the ground floor where the majority of the departure gates will be.

Also ,nearly forgot to mention but where gates 9 and 10 are, it's looking like there's going to be an additional gate going in with a third exit seemingly being constructed. The left exit heads off to the left down a new glass walkway, the right exit heads off right down a new walkway and the central exit looks like it will serve air bridge 7. I do hope the airport will re-number the gates in reverse order seen as the current gate 10 will soon be the first gate passengers come to. It would make sense to re-number gate 10 as gate 1 and so on.

Yes but it's going to take up more space with a walkway (circulation zone) running straight through it. I believe the old plant room which has now gone up onto the roof is going to become a kitchen area for the new bar.

The old gate 10 door that serves directly down to the airbridge will be used for access into the outer walkways mainly as the glass tunnels are hidous for getting in and out off. Hopefully it will also become a gate to better serve the airbridge as mentioned.

The “loop” walkway is beginning to grow on me now giving the illusion from the inside the terminal is longer though in my opinion it might be too narrow, something I hope Bridgepoint don’t live to regret. Having said that the re-fit utilises space as best as possible with glass giving a more open plan feeling and raised seating which opens the space out somewhat.

And I quite like Saltire’s conditioning vents, its contemporary working well with the light fittings and tables getting the feeling it’s going to connote an architect’s workspace.

That was the original plan but this may have changed. I'm lead to believe the airport wants the WHSmith store to remain but it might be moved or made smaller. So I'm not sure what's happening.

I would imagine the WHSmith store landside will make money from the employees of the airport, visitors who come to pick people up or people who know that papers disappear airside so will by it from landside.

Thanks EBC-S9, I'd not seen that before. I take it it's in Cargo Shed 2 ? You can almost build an entire terminal out of what's kept in there. I thought it was supposed to be a three channel walkway although It looks like the left side can be made into two channels.

I don't know specifics, however its only a sample. It's manufactured by RP&P Rex Procter & Partners(http://www.rpp-constructionconsultants.co.uk/index.php). By looking at their previous work you can see they were involved in he re construction of the Premier Lounge and also the creation of check in hall B.

If you compair it to the airport's impression, you would imagine another panel to go in. As it's also the other way around as opposed to the mock up.

why would they have 3 channels? would one be for staff?

I preessume it would be 3 channels so at busy times, they can use 2 channels for departures and 1 for arrivals or the otherway round so it doesn't get congested in the walkway and to keep the passengers flowing.

[strike]The idea of having three channels was so that it could work as two channels for departing passengers and one channel as an arrivals channel and then the other way around depending on the time of day.[/strike] Each flight needs to be separated to ensure departing passengers don't end up heading towards arrivals etc.
