Re: Infrastructure Developments

Wood-Mitchell are out and about around the terminal again. They are starting the work to alter the passenger screening area for the summer.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

I think i saw them yesterday. What exactly is the plan for security? Are further works going to take place after the summer when the whole terminal gets done or is all of the security work being completed before the rest of it?

Re: Infrastructure Developments

I don't know exactly what they are going to do but I do know that all the work in the CSZ will be temporary to facilitate the growth in passengers for this and possibly next summer prior to the new terminal extension opening.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

I see. The CSZ is very limited indeed to say we are an International airport. I think the fasttrack lane also is beneficial, which see's the likes of more KLM, LGW type of pax using it than your FR or LS.

[textarea]Hewlett wins construction job at Leeds Bradford Airport

Hewlett Civil Engineering has won the construction job to improve parking facilities at an airport.

The Leeds-based company has won a £1 million contract from Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) to create 1,000 additional parking spaces.

Included in the project will be the civil engineering job to work on the drainage at the site.

Rob Hudson from Hewlett said the construction and engineering job award was a positive note for the company.

He said: "Whilst we are mindful of the volatility of the industry, we believe that the company is currently well placed to achieve another satisfactory outcome for the year as a whole."

LBIA operations director Carl Lapworth said he was pleased to be able to give a local firm the chance to create construction and civil engineering jobs.

Published today but it's old news on Forums4airports but it does at least tell us how much the work is costing.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

Further to my last post the new carpark completion date is the 28th May.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

LBA have been using the extra downtime to carry out essential maintenance on the runway. Work to excavate and replace whole paving slabs has been carried out over the last day or two.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

personally i think leeds bradford need a runway surface like manchester what like tarmac i think rather than paving slabs what look to me that they always need repairing

I've heard it from many different sources that concrete is the best runway surface. The only problem comes when it needs replacing but quick setting concrete is very good and it reaches it's required strength very quickly.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

Nothing much to report other than the new Long Stay 2 car park has been opened this week. Hopefully it wont be too long before we're reporting the announcement of the terminal development. I can't believe Bridgepoint are being so quiet about this one, after all they have planning approval. You would have thought that they would be singing and dancing about it. That is unless the work has been postponed.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

As of the last consultative meeting it had not been postponed and work was progressing on the project with an intended start this Autumn. Given the very encouraging passenger figures since the arrival of Ryanair and with Jet2 reported to be doing well, I cannot see them being able to continue with the terminal as it is now, for too much longer.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

Why not just write to the top man and ask him what's happening. I've emailed him a few times with positive and negative feedback, thoughts regarding public transport and he replies very promptly and courteously.
It's not hard to write to say "Dear John - used the airport recently. Great to see it busy and encouraging to see more choice following Ryanair's arrival. It does make the failings of the terminal more evident though, and I have neither seen nor heard any firm details about when the new development will start. The plans look exciting, but are they still on track?"

Re: Infrastructure Developments

Work is due to begin on a £28m expansion and improvement of its outdated terminal next spring

This quote from the Knaresborough Posts is the latest indication of when the terminal development will begin.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

I can understand the idea of leaving it until the end of the summer so to ensure the work only runs through one summer season but if they start the work in spring, they risk having the work running into a second summer.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

I understood that the start of the Terminal Extension was to be in October as as less passenger's use the Terminal. I agree with Yorkshire will we ever see them start,it's pathetic with the Terminal we have and there's talk of 3.5 million passenger's using an in adequate Terminal..

Re: Infrastructure Developments

The Terminal development will never get off the ground. I have spent some time working for the airport company over the last few months as well as my normal job in the airport, and all I can say is look out for more cost cutting and doing things on the cheap. The wrong people bought the airport, they only sorted out the car park so that they can increase income. Every 6 months a press release is put out stating that the terminal will start in the following 6 months. Has it done yet? No. I've said it before, i'm very dispondent about it all but keep an eye on the property pages of the Yorkshire Post.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

I would suspect they are guessing, as Mr Parkin would not give any definite indication as to a start date to a local rag, and only a few weeks ago, stated it would start in the autumn. Starting in Spring would be madness.

Re: Infrastructure Developments

The Premiere Lounge opened today, it is very smart and much improved on the previous Servisair dingy place. Almost makes the 'International' part of LBIA seem worthwhile!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
