The significance of Great Whernside is that it is likely to be the highest point within that quadrant from LBA, and hence defines the lowest level (broadly, 1000’ above terrain) that ATC can assign to an IFR aircraft in that quadrant. You can see these levels in the link below. Note that the minimum altitude to the North-West is 3300’:

EGNM ATC Surveillance Minimum Altitude Chart

You’ll most often hear reference to these levels when ATC advise aircraft on a Traffic Service that they are “beneath my terrain-safe level, take your own terrain clearance” - these are the levels being referred to.

Once again it's lousy reception on the radar frequency today. Beats me how Tower comes through crystal clear and Radar, using a higher wattage transmitter, is constantly masked by background hiss. I've just come back from Manchester and the difference in signal strength and readability is definitely noticeable between the two units.

I'm not sure to be honest but so far as I could tell I though the airport had a decent amount of public consultation the last time around.

Generally people who live close to the airport will always assume new routings will lead to more noise but in reality those closest to the airport and those who are effected most by aircraft noise will unlikely notice any difference.

I forget exactly how I stumbled across the documents I read but the planning and consultation has been done in consultation with Cyrrus. I did a Google search with a few appropriate words and phrases and that was it. Sorry I can't be more helpful but I am happy to email the documents I've downloaded to anyone who wants them. Some of the files are quite large.

The documents I have seen still have numerous options, and are both complex and difficult to understand. They were nowhere near the point of finalising the preferred routings. Quite frankly, I lost the will to live trying to fathom it all out, so just looked at the pictures!

Leeds Director on 125.380 has once again been dusted down and is in use for traffic sequencing, vectors etc alongside the regular Radar frequency. I don't know if this is because traffic calls for it today or ATC are using the frequency to convince OFCOM to let them keep it!

Ofcom wouldn't know if it was being used or not. Nor would they care as long as the license fee is paid!

Saturday afternoons see some of the largest number of movements within a certain time period, combined with the good weather, there is often an increase in general aviation aircraft wanting a service from LBA.

Looks like CAA are not satisfied with LBA planned the airspace changes. It has failed on all 4 criteria as part of step 2B (Develop and Assess Gateway)

Good news is that the change sponsor (LBA) is now able to reconsider its submission before resubmitting it for further review by the CAA at a future Develop & Assess Gateway.

CAA response to Develop & Assess Gateway

04/07/2023: The CAA has completed the Develop and Assess Gateway Assessment and is not satisfied that the change sponsor has met the requirements of the Process up to this point. The CAA does not approve progress to the next Step. Further explanation for this decision is contained in the published document 'Develop & Assess Gateway Outcome - June 2023'.
In accordance with direction 5(1) of the Civil Aviation Authority (Air Navigation) Directions 2017 (as amended), the CAA is not satisfied this airspace change proposal up to this stage has demonstrated that it is in accordance with the CAA’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy (CAP 1711), including Iteration 2 of the UK Masterplan that has been accepted into it.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
