Re: Potential Routes

i agree on that note. take a look at the easy-jet flights to Geneva the airport knew it was going ahead in September but didn't bother to let people know until November, and they only advertised them for three weeks

Re: Potential Routes

i dont know if any of you heard but radio aire are doing that free flight month with jet2 and they are offering flight to like barcalona ect but i also heard DUBAI :) is this a hint to a new route?

Re: Potential Routes

I guess these ad hoc flights are already sold so they may not have a reason to advertise it.

It is probably routing through one of the hub airports such as Amsterdam or Brussels.

Just a pointer Ryan. Vancouver Airport Services do not actually own Vancouver Airport, the name is misleading in that way.
Sorry to go slightly off topic, but it's actually the other way round - Vancouver Airport Services is a subsidiary of Vancouver Airport Authority (who run Vancouver Airport). So they are sort of part of the same family.

Re: Potential Routes Madrid

Now that Ryanair are doing Manchester - Madrid does anyone think that EasyJet will do LBA - Madrid. The EDI - MAD route with EasyJet seems well used, I have used it several times and it is always pretty full. I am reminded of the clip with Tony Hallwood mentioning a possible Iberia or Spanair LBA - Madrid connection... any news on this? Of course Jet2 may still have this one in mind but it seems a good route for EasyJet to develop if they have in mind using LBA to a greater extent, especially as Ryanair are now getting MAN!

Re: Potential Routes

It would be good if they did but I don't see it happening personally.I hope I am proved wrong of course and you never know, in this industry anything can happen. Who would have predicted last weeks Ryanair announcement.

The Jet2 service to Madrid always seemed really popular but then they pulled it. There is clearly a demand for flights to Madrid from Leeds Bradford Airport and I can only imagine it must have been the yield from the route that was a concern for Jet2. Maybe a different airline with a different aircraft type would be able to make the route work.

Re: Potential Routes

An Iberia link to Madrid may be the strongest option now because of Oneworld connections.

Re: Potential Routes

Spanair would also be good airline to operate a Madrid service from LBA due to there Star Alliance connections.

With it been Star Alliance they could also offer inward & onward connections to both Edinburgh and Glasgow and also offer a codeshare on the service with bmi british midland.

With regards to EWE and DXB, you may be able to get jet2 on EWR, but the only ones who could make DXB work are EK, and after the huge investment they have just put into MAN with the A380 and the lounge, there would be no way they would want to dilute that investment.

Probably a discussion for another thread, so someone can feel free to move but....

The plan for a New York link is part of a campaign being led by the airport named 'Project America'. I was at the launch party a little over 12 months ago and it most definitely isn't a campaign to get Jet2. They may continue with their ad-hoc shopping charters but they aren't who the airport are targetting for a regular scheduled link offering connections via a NYC hub. It's a long term plan (5 years) but having done this before the airport management are aware you need to start early and build momentum.

Similarly, DXB is EK. The LBA MD is the guy who worked for 2 years with EK to bring them to Newcastle - a move which is working up there and so he is someone who EK listen to and with whom they have a good working relationship. Again, they aren't coming this winter, but the work is starting now as part of the longer term plan.

Re: Ryanair

I hope that both of your predictions come true, do Emirates have any B787s or A350s on order as I believe Lbia would struggle to provide an operational base for any of the aircraft they currently operate with our runway limitations and equipment shortfalls unless they intend to make some drastic improvements to our infrastructure as well as the new terminal.

Re: Potential Routes

Emirates do operate Airbus A330's.

Thomas Cook proved last year they could operate a full load off pax there baggage and a heavy load off fuel on there A330 to Bridgetown-Barbados direct off LBA's runway 14. If i'm correct Dubai is a shorter distance as well so the aircraft would require less fuel. I maybe wrong on that!

If they wanted to add Freight well that would change things I guess weight wise and would also require a longer take-off run?

Re: Potential Routes

But the plan is for the A330 to be retired very soon, that's why CPH has already been upgraded to a B777 even though the route hasn't even started yet. Like I say though, EK will not dilute loads/yields at an airport they have just invested millions of pounds in. Also, he may have got EK to NCL, but that didn't have another EK route 40-50 miles down the road.

Re: Potential Routes

Due to our poor weather record I dont think Emirates would see Cat 3 onto runway 32 with a tailwind as an option with an A330, I would not like to do it with an A300, we lost 3 flights on Monday because we do not have Cat 2 or Cat 3 on runway 14 and we might never achieve this goal due to terrain and technical issues. We all know when we have low visibility it is normally with southerly winds. Landing distances on both ends is marginal for aircraft of that type which would create problems they dont have at the airfield they operate to at present.

Re: Potential Routes

World_Rep I know MAN supporters wouldn’t like to see either its neighbours LPL or LBA gain more long haul routes. But even if Emirates did ever come to LBA do you really think it would hurt MAN's 2x service? I would say that it will most likely compliment it just like PIA do with there links to Islamabad from both MAN & LBA.

I know that there has been talk recently that Emirates might launch a 3rd daily flight out of MAN with an A330 or B777 later this year. How about they decided to bring that extra rotation to LBA instead and just upgrade the 2nd daily MAN flight from B777 to a 2nd daily A380 operation.

Re: Potential Routes

but the work is starting now as part of the longer term plan.

One would assume that certain significant infrastructure developments would be required before such services would be viable.

It was said that LBA and PIA looked into to upgrading the Islamabad service to B777 op's last year. LBA thought they could handle it with the infrastructure then as they said so to Leeds City Council at the time. Plus LBA has handled 2x A330's with-in the last 18 months or so of Monarch and Thomas Cook without problems

So why cant they now, Whats changed in last 18 months?

Re: Potential Routes

Has anyone got the figures of TODA, airfield altitude etc? These are all important to consider. These larger aircraft need to be able to operate at high all up weight to produce yield (and make services viable). I fully believe the catchment area is there for these routes, but I'm not convinced that the EK inventory could be used for an LBA service currently, particularly when incentives become harder with MAN being just down the road.

An NYC route with a 'flag' carrier is more likely in the medium term IMO, not sure of the 787 capabilities but would that not be suited more to airports like LBA?

Re: Potential Routes

It's not just about being a MAN supporter. It's also not as easy tomake MAN a whole A388 operation as cargo would take a huge huge hit, and LBA isn't exactly cargo friendly ad it is. I'm sorry, I just font see it happening

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
