I agree with what a couple of other posters have said wrt DXB. Admirable ambition to enter discussions regarding flights to that area of the world, but I think Turkish offer a genuine possibility to connect to their network via IST in a much more sustainable way. Also Play for KEF and onward connections to a wide range of US destinations. North America isn’t as strong a market these days as it used to be, as you can see with BHX losing all of its services over that way. Be a tough sell to anyone with MAN being fairly close.

Absolutely no doubt that Yorkshire could support those services in isolation, but it’s the impact on established routes that will be the problem IMO.

This is the Route Development thread and it's all about rumours and speculation. Which airline, or more importantly which airline has the right aircraft type to do the job.

And moving to Manchester from then additional Toronto services started from Manchester that was my understanding at the time

I also recall as a little one at the time looking out the windows of westfield primary school at a worldways L1011 and remember once catching a nationair DC8 at the cemetery rd view point instead of the usual 757s!

Yes Worldways operated the competing (with Globespan/Wardair)Tristar service for one year - can't recall if they were first or Air Transat, and yes there were odd occasions when we got a DC8 60 series, all of which I managed to miss..

The Toronto route may have finished that year but I cannot remember.

I've always been told by LBA management (at the time and more recently) that it was the diminishing demand that led to flights being consolidated to larger airports only, so nothing to do with Bill Savage leaving. Globespan's contract was with the airport, not with Mr. Savage. When the contract ended the flights ended, and would have done whether it not Bill Savage remained at the airport. I believe other regional airports suffered the same fate as and when their contracts ended.

Yes, I mentioned Odyssey in one of my posts above. They were the first airline to do the route after the demise of Wardair.with their 757s. Nice livery too. Shame it didn't last. Then came Nationair, Caledonian and Air Transat.

A lot of bollocks on this topic. So much negativity. Airlines are moving away from the widebodies, LBA are looking at utilising A321neoXLR so should be fine operating.

Jeddah presumably for Haj flights. IST would be a waste of time unless Turkish or a codeshare/alliance partner flew the route. To be honest I cant sed ORK, ATH, BGO or KEF supporting regular flights, and where are German Airports and CPH?
