I read somewhere last week that Aer Lingus consider the horth of England to be the main gateway to the USA and are planning to expand this.

Yes

BA1 and BA3 route LCY-SNN-JFK.

The a/c (A318) calls at SNN for fuel primarily but while that's happening the pax (30 max as all Club World configuration) clear US immigration so they then wander out of JFK on arrival as domestic pax wld.

I believe the SNN bit no longer works for the later BA3 due to a change in opening hours but its certainly a selling point that the pax like.

I would like more eastern European routes for lba,on a w from Ryanair European bases
this would fill in some quieter time at lba and give Ryanair a quick turn round.
just my thoughts

I totally agree with you SNOWMAN 1, Is there really enough room for a 4th based ryanair aircraft never mind a 3rd based Monarch?

Ryanair have the option of utilising no-based aircraft which would fill in the quieter gaps which we would all like to see happen. Scandinavia and Eastern European routes are what the airport management have recently been shouting out about and these are the types of places that Ryanair currently have based aircraft at.

I my gut feeling is that Monarch wont be able to do this though as they don't have aircraft based in mainland Europe, So they would need to do w-legs from other UK bases eg MAN, LGW, BHX, LTN or EMA which would then make them return with the first wave of the LBA inbound based fleet.

I too believe that extra Ryanair flights from other European bases such as Charleroi, Hahn, Modlin, Torp and Skavsta would seen to be the most feasible way forward.

My wife and other staff in her company travel to Stockholm regularly from Manchester. Problem with Skavsta is it's miles away from Stockholm. I reckon Skavsta is only good for leisure travellers, and who is going to go to Sweden f they have a choice. I've been and it is ridiculously expensive.

I've been! Had a smashing 3 day trip taking photographs, managed to get the locals to shuttle me to a remote area to take 2 Caravelles. Even stayed at the airport in the "Jumbo Hostel"

In the new jetaway in flight magazine it lists Verona (VRN) as a new destination for jet2 from LBA & EDI. Flights don't appear bookable at this time but the signs are there for another route from LBA.

It is more than likely OLB & LRH have been dropped for 2014.

Absolutely not !!
Although Jet 2 are vital towards the growth of the airfield its also extremely important
that there is growth for others like Monarch that have selected LBA as a base.
We don't want a " one man airline " and welcome investment from other carriers into developing
new routes.
I say " we " , hopefully Im speaking on behalf of the majority.

competition is good and hopefully keeps fares low. but also we support our local airline which played a HUGE part in making LBA what it is today

I bet the map is wrong and the little blob should be over Edinburgh instead of Leeds.

Well it's listed as NEW under the destinations served part of the magazine. I don't work for Jet2 so cannot say for sure...

It would be a good addition if its not a typo.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
