I like the idea of consolidation for next summer with the added pressure on the airlines to use more "non-based" flights if they wish to expand.

I see Thomsons have pulled out of Teeside next summer and the website re-direct you to Robin Hoods Thomson program. Sorry for the airport supporters up there but it would be silly to drive past Lbia to fly from Robin Hood. They will probably go north to Newcastle anyway.

Talk on the other forum of Aer lingus Regional expansion. They seem to think LBA might have a chance at a DUB-LBA service. Thoughts?

Yes I saw that too ! It was said Lbia would have a Dublin service with Aer Lingus Regional before Newcastle got one.

I note that BMIR are dropping Aberdeen to Bristol which is a bit annoying when you think back to the fact they killed our Eastern Air Aberdeen to Bristol flights by operating a direct routing.

No reports that ABZ-BRS is to cease. The routes that bmi has announced will close either at the end of this year or early next are: Manchester to Edinburgh and Antwerp; Birmingham to Billund; and Edinburgh to Copenhagen and Brussels.

Bristol-Hannover has ceased - today was the last day of operation - and Birmingham to both Gothenburg and Toulouse have also been axed.

Currently only BRS and ABZ will remain bases after the above routes cease, together with the airline's new venture in Norway that starts in January.

Slightly ironic that bmi regional are becoming less British by the day.

Good luck to all laid off staff. It seems bmi is rapidly running out of ideas, there are only so many options where a small niche airline can run small aircraft.

You are correct the article I read had a header 5 routes to be axed. and listed ABZ to BRS but the text says it is to continue for the moment. Do you know how well it is doing as I would love to have the Lbia to Bristol link back if BMIR drop it.

The ABZ is the best performer in terms of loads of the six (now five) bmi regional flights out of BRS. Whether the yield is the best is another matter of course.

BRS-ABZ operates 2 x daily on weekdays and daily on Sundays with monthly load factors of between 60% and 70%.

I've sometimes wondered about easyJet and BRS-LBA. easyJet operates a daily BRS-Inverness that carries over twice the number of passengers as the 2 x daily bmi BRS-ABZ and to a destination that airlines might think is less attractive than Aberdeen. It shows the value of a well-known brand and agreeable fares. Although I like easyJet and use them quite a lot I'm told that bmi regional's onboard service is superior.

My thinking on easyJet and BRS-LBA is that easyJet has operated BRS-Newcastle for many years at least 2 x daily - at one time it was 3 and even 4 x daily on some days - and it remains easily the busiest air route between two English provincial cities.

BRS-LBA would have to be 2 x daily to make it business-friendly and the fact that Leeds is closer to Bristol than is Newcastle might just tip the balance away from such a venture, but I'd be very surprised if easyJet hasn't seriously considered a BRS-LBA route.

Thats very Interesting, the loads dont seem bad at all but the old problem of the aircraft type being expensive to operate. Would love to see more Easyjet at Leeds so fingers crossed.

I notice on the Flybe thread on the BHX forum there's a mention of Flybe re-establishing links between Birmingham and Newquay which makes me I wonder if Flybe would ever reconsider operating the LBA-NQY route now that Jet2 shows no sign of ever re-instating the route.

Could a daily service during the day be possible with a dash 8? or even a 4 times a week?

Flybe announced last month 61 routes out of 158 losimg money, cant see them starting new routes

According to a post on the East Midlands Forum Leeds to Southampton with FlyBe is to cease from 19-01-2014.

More than 745,000 passengers flew from Manchester with German airline Lufthansa last year and about 50 per cent of Lufthansa passengers flying from Manchester connect to other routes operated by the carrier, across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Only when you read things like this does it make you realise what an uphill struggle LBA has at winning over passengers that should be flying from this side of the Pennines.

Surely a bigger issue is our failure in the u.k. to have a hub airport with capacity. If we built another 2 runways at LHR or a new u.k. hub airport and had a shuttle for LBA to it, residents of our region would use it. LBA suffers like most other regional airports by our failure to have a unified aviation policy.

Too true but as we all know this is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future so LBA should be capitalising on this.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

I have been to Sandtoft airfield near Doncaster today and some locals were saying that there is a rumour of Emirates operations coming to Robin Hood. I think this would be the end of any hopes we might have for such a route to Lbia for ever.

Let's start a new rumour! Emirates are coming to LBA not DSA ...

Ps, I have been told that a certain well known Bradford based travel agent who has in the past brought flights into LBA is in discussions regarding flights to the middle east region..

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
