Emerald Airways UK (operating as Aer Lingus Regional) have been awarded there UK AOC this evening.

So the Leeds - Belfast flight will be operated by Emerald Airways UK (EAG) whilst the Dublin route will continue to be operated by Emerald Airlines Ireland (EAI)

What advantages does a UK AOC bring with it?

All down to Brexit.

Emerald is the operator of the Carrickfinn PSO and has to have an EU AOC to bid and fly that route - they couldn't do that on a UK AOC and if they have designs on other operations like Dublin -Rennes which Stobart Air did for several years, they need that EU AOC.

However you can have a UK base without having a UK AOC. eg: Ryanair has several UK bases at which it has EI- aircraft only but it can't fly UK domestics or from the UK to a non-EU country (unless an air services agreements permit) on that basis.

So basically holding a UK AOC means Emerald can now fly UK domestic's and any route that the UK has an air services agreement with.

I noticed it yesterday morning at LBA that the Dublin flight AT-76 EI-FAT has been resprayed into the new livery. This joined Emerald in the old scheme. I presume the other ATR-72 EI-FAV will get the paint at some point.

So actually we have come out of the flybe collapse better off with the extra aer lingus services, baring in mind there was only a 50/50 chance you would get to belfast with flybe! still sad for the employees of flybe though, anger at those in charge i feel.

In some ways we are worse off because BE were going to operate 3 a day, up from what was their current 1 a day (now zero - sorry that's cynical and slightly inappropriate for the staff concerned), but what this will help do is bring some stability to the EI operation on the route of and who knows may see the introduction of a 4th flight on the busier days. Also agree an ideal time for U2 to go daily, or again at least up capacity a little bit. Several members were concerned about over-capacity on LBA-BHD/BFS prior to BE's demise so suspect there is more than LBA to benefit in a weird sort of way. Customer confidence certainly the stand out benefit!

not exactly worse off. If the current schedule of 20X weekly is kept into august then there is technically still very slightly more capacity than there were pax last august due to overcapacity last year. Pax wise if we take into account real life factors instead of just looking at it on paper we would only be slightly worse off. Hopefully the 4th daily flight does emerge…

Aer Lingus ATR-72-600 seems to be positioning in from Dublin. Wonder if it’s to do with the other tech ATR-72 (EI-FAT) that’s been at LBA all week.

Call sign is EAI43P. The 'P or PAPA' at the end usually implies a positioning flight. Interesting to search it's registration (EI-GPP), shows it was due in EDI yesterday from BHD, but diverted back to BHD. It then positioned to DUB today and has now positioned from DUB to LBA.

They’ve parked it on stand 21A which seems unusual as they don’t park them there usually. Now heading back out. Suggests to me that it’s something to do with EI-FAT.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
