I thought LOT's low cost of shoot Centralwings pulled the Leeds-Warsaw route as it was taking pax away from LOT's own Manchester-Warsaw service at the time.

If I remember correctly Centralwings operated the route about 2/3x weekly using Boeing 737-400's with an arrival into Leeds around 00:30 and a departure back out at 02:00.

The times were dreadful but the loads were excellent. As you said, LOT made Centralwings pull the route as it was diluting their MAN-WAW schedule.

Centralwings were a complete shambles because of LOT. They were treated as a poor relation with no clear strategy in a half hearted attempt to have a low cost airline.
All low cost airlines are looked down upon in Poland and passengers are not usually allowed to mix with the full service airlines. In Warsaw passengers were segregated into a cattle shed.

Sounds more like a description of UK airports these days, ie business lounges vs everybody else. 😀

Hello 48vanman.

Thank you for the list of aircraft types you've flown in. I know how difficult it is to remember every one.

There is a thread in existence for this and I've copied your list to it

Ok thanks TheLocalYokel,I'm a complete technophobe,haven't a clue really.Where can I find this thread?

Following on from the movements thread re MEA B720/707.
B707.3B4C OD-AFE visited LBA on 19 May 1989 the same day as B707.3L6C A6-HRM UAE Gov't. What a day at LBA TWO B707. (I have photographic evidence, slide).

yes was there that day. 'Dubai 2'was the c/s.Did some holds when it first arrived. The TMA 707 was a lovely visitor too.

There was a 707 (or 720) at LBA much earlier though, which I assume is the one Pete was referring to. It arrived prior to the runway extension opening during 1984. I watched it land from St Paul's Street in Leeds and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I am fairly sure that was a UAE aircraft doing either training, or carrying VIP's, and it was definitely the first of the type at LBA

I am not certain but I don't think we have had a Boeing 737 900 series yet either?

Futura the now defunct Spanish charter carrier operated the 739ER into LBA a few years ago. It operated a saturday afternoon/evening flight to PMI during the peak season months. I used to have some great pics of it taxing onto stand taken from the raised catering vehicle on the PIA but seem to have lost them!

What about a 757-300?

I've been on a Thomas Cook one from Manchester a few years ago
I believe they are the only uk operators of that type, they have 2

One diverted into Leeds about 4-5 years ago. We supplied the flight deck with crew food as they were doing an ultra long-haul positioning sector to Manchester! 😀

Futura 737-900

I had no idea that this airline operated this type of aircraft,so thank you LBA787.It is true, you learn something new everyday!.

I've just loaded a couple of pictures in the Aviation Nostalgia Gallery. Taken in 1976, they are not brilliant but with the camera available at the time, acceptable.

Thank you for sharing those with us Seasider
I would love to appreciate your work but cant find them
Please help :whiteflag:

Hi Ex Crew, you need to go to the Main Index, then to Aviation Enthusiasts thread, then click on Aviation Nostalgia, where you will find pics of an Air Anglia Handley Page Herald and also Air Anglia F27 G-BDVS which I seem to recall went on to serve for years to come with Air UK and was a regular at LBA throughout that time. Thanks for the photos Seasider, nice to see the Herald in particular. Somewhere, I have a British United Island Airways Herald photo, but it was taken in the mid 70's using an Instamatic camera, so not very good. I have to find it first though............

I seem to recall Gill operating Bristol for a time too? Has nobody got any old Air Supply timetables?
Searching for Gill Air at LBA i came across this.

They operated from LBA, can't remember the routes. But i know they did as i was in a SH360 taxiing from Knight air as it was then to the main apron. A family friend was a self employed aircraft mechanic and he took me along and i got a cockpit taxi ride.

Anyone know anymore about Gill Air's operations from LBA?

Fairly sure Gill operated LBA to Glasgow - one of a succession of airlines to do so after Dan Air pulled off the route.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
