Did we get to visits of the Air Provence Caravelle. I always thought it was a Saturday when it came in. Still, it was great to see the aircraft at Leeds. I guess Air Provence must have been the only airline to bring a Caravelle to Leeds.

I think I've found the Saturday flights Aviador.

Caravelle F-GCVL made three trips from and to Lourdes in May 1992, the 8th as ARR721/722, the 9th as APR727/728, and the 15th as APR725/726.

Other Caravelles have visited. Transavia did a short series of Dutch Bulbflields flights from and to Rotterdam in either 1974 or 1975. I also seem to remember a Swiss registered Caravelle parked on the lower apron (now under Stand 9 and 10) outside the British Airways hangar around the same time. These operated off the old shorter Runway 33/15.

Finally Sterling had four Caravelles on first visits, OY-SAH 18/05/1978, OY-SAL 14/10/1976, OY-STC 26/02/1986, and OY-STD 24/02/1986.

I never knew we'd seen the aircraft so many time before. I only ever saw the Air Provence and I recall going to the corner of the golf course to see it land. I wasn't going to go but I changed my mind the night before thinking I'd see the Balkan Airlines at around the same time.

I saw the Air Provence operating one of the Lourdes flights and got photos, and saw one of the Sterling flights but had no camera. I do recall it used a chute at the back to help it stop though, which was a first for me. Seriously not happy on the day that I didn't capture that on a photograph.

The Caravelle archives have been raided again!

Two Corse Air International Caravelle VI-N first visits to LBA were F-BVSF on 02/03/1985 and F-BVPZ on 04/10/1985.

This is from one of the old airport handbooks. The Yorkshire Aeroplane Club telephone number was just one digit different from my old home telephone number and we used to get numerous calls where people were asking flying lessons or weather information.

I thought that I had uploaded a picture of the Transavia Caravelle in March 1974 - first slide picture I took.

I haven't deleted any so if you did it will still be here. Have you looked through the Yeadon category? If it's not there it could be in the general category.

If you add titles to your photos it makes it easier to find them.

Can't believe its 21 years to the day since that ill fated evening when Knight Air Embraer 110 Bandeirante, G-OEAA took off from Leeds/Bradford operating flight "Knightway816" to Aberdeen plunged to the ground shortly after take-off and crashed at Dunkeswick Moor near to Harewood house killing all 12 people on-board. RIP

I was in Harewood Village that afternoon at a friends, getting ready for a night out. As I left home, I watched G-OEAA take off from my home in Cookridge, in a thunderstorm. By the time I reached Harewood, it had crashed just 1 mile away. As we got ready, there was an endless stream of police, fire and ambulance vehicles that went on for over an hour, but as we didn't have the radio on, we had no idea what had happened. I only found out the next morning.

I was working for the Lambson Group at the time so the anniversary strikes a painful chord personally.

I worked with the girlfriend of one of the pilots on the evenings Southampton bound flight.

Listening to the R/T and knowing what had happened was one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had.

I went to grab a work colleage and we went to her home to break the news to our colleage knowing there was a strong possibility her partner was involved.

We didn't know if it was the right thing to do but we knew it would be worse finding out from a BBC news flash which followed soon after. Thankfully for them he was on the other flight heading southbound.

A truly horrible day.

RIP

Great to see you back. It's really easy to post your photos. Edit post and click on the camera image. You'll see all your images come up underneath where you can select the ones you want to post to this page.

armadillomaster I was always aware there were some kind of special bus tours of all the Euro'96 aircraft. That's the first time I've actually seen any photos taken on the tour. Thanks for sharing them with us!

No worries. I did think I had more but apparently not.

It was a great day. And as a 9 year old mixing footie and planes was the dream!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
