Just read on the BHX Wizz thread that they are getting a new twice weekly service to Sibiu in Romania for W25/26.
Now whilst I don't know if something else has been cut or reduced to accommodate this let's hope it's another sign of improved aircraft availability for Wizz which in turn hoping more increases for LBA. Not for one minute suggesting Sibiu to be a viable route from LBA, just a general observation and hope/wish

Am i right in thinking wizz operate into Saudi Arabia? If so once again this could be a possible link to saudi from LBA if ever wizz based at the airport, plus they use the ideal aircraft!

They've recently started flights there from Luton I believe
So hopefully LBA management will be in talks with wizz on a pos saudi link, but of course we need wizz based at LBA first, wizz are the key as they dont operate from any of LBAs competitor airports inc that one over the hill!
Using the A321 aircraft wizz will need to make profit on passenger loads rather than freight due to been a narrow bodied plane but this would reduce weight i guess for extra performance.

Wizzair flights to LBA are operated by Hungarian registered W4 aircraft. From LGW the service to Jeddah is W6 (Wizzair UK). Traffic rights would not allow W4 aircraft to operate from UK to Saudi and Wizzair UK shows no interest in basing outside London. Far better for LBA to focus on FlyADeal or, even better, FlyNas which would allow onward connections.

Romanian flights are operated by Wizzair Malta, not Hungarian. Nevertheless, I think your point is correct. One of the upcoming Arabian carriers would be far more likely to give LBA a try.

As i reported a last week or so looked like Wizz has dropped BUD from LPL & GLA, interesting route from BHX as they have not long back added FCO. Very random route choice for them from BHX i must say. But good to see our program stable / slightly increased. Would be great for them to finally announce something new.

Wizz Air - Winter 25/26
Wizz Air UK have two bases in the UK, LTN and LGW.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi do not operate to the UK at this time
Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta do operate to the UK and in summer 2025 operate from their bases in Europe to the following five UK airports: ABZ, BHX, GLA, LBA and LPL.
In winter 2025, GLA will lose its only route to BUD meaning only 4 UK airports outside of London will see Wizz Air operations.

The below table lists all Wizz Air bases (not including LTN & LGW) down the left, and which UK airports they operate to in winter 2025.
ABZ will have 3x weekly departures,
LBA will see 11/12.
LPL will have 14.
BHX has 18.

You can see the routes that have been cut are highlighted in red, and the only new route highlighted in green. Any new routes to LBA would likely be to bases that have already got routes to the UK (highlighted in yellow), and will be almost certainly to an airport on this list - so unfortunately no Saudi at this time.

Apparently, in late May, they still have 37 aircraft grounded and now say it will be 2030 before all grounded aircraft are fixed. They have had about 26 new NEOs delivered but less than expected. They also have some spare engines to keep a few airframes airworthy.

They do say the position is improving but very slowly. I guess they may still grow , but I'd imagine LBA isn't that high on their priority list.

Its good news but they are really just 'treading water' at Leeds. They seem to be expanding elsewhere either by new aircraft arriving or shuffling the existing fleet. Im sure theres potential for more growth.

Out of interest what destinations did they serve from DSA in their heyday there?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
