LBA definitely in need of some route expansion, not just from Wizz. The silence is becoming increasingly deafening.
Looking like we are unlikely to get much more expansion from either WizzAir or any other airline new or existing until this stupid LCC decision over the CLUED's are resolved even if it means a new planning application to resolve the issues.

Exactly! Absolutely bugger all is happening at the moment, not even a new destination or 2 from our big operators (although id expect this later in the year, oct, nov, we shall see) there is no excuse now that the terminal extension is complete and the rest of the old section due for completion next year, if we are due anything new and exciting then surely something must be on the horizon?
Although like other members have just posted its just typical that LBA finally starts to see some decent infrastructure improvements then the parasites at LCC come along with the CLUED situation,
For me though wizz is the operator that could make something big out of LBA esp as we dont have the MAN problem with wizz, i can think of numerous routes wizz could fly to, easyjet seem to be holding back currently although i do expect another route or 2 next year. But back to wizz, come on lets see some growth!

Its not an LCC decision. It was an independent review.

I agree a new application is the way to go but all hell will be let loose!

Yes I agree it just gives an impression of over capacity inI the north east don’t forget FR are now in competition and with the additional capacity at NCL including a new route to gdansk. And further anoucements regards DSA Mk2 so here we go

Seems odd given that Gdansk saw a 45% increase in passengers in June compared to last year. That said, Ryanair have 4 flights weekly themselves. If this is true it won't be the first route where Ryanair have won the battle with Wizz.

You would of thought LBA GDN has a stronger market then BHX FCO & GLA FCO / BGY 🤡 in winter..
They do appear to be faltering a bit. Their core market is diminishing and they decided to put all their U.K. fleet into the London airports where they know it’s rich pickings. At the moment I can only see it going one way sadly but Ryanair are proving to have the advantage. Hope I’m wrong.

Hopefully our new Aviation Director who has past experience at DSA has a good relationship with Wizz, hopefully it’s temporary etc. Who knows. Not encouraging.

Sad to see Gdansk go, but the route is covered well by Ryanair operating up to 4x weekly flights this coming winter.

Better News is that Wizz Air have increased Leeds to Budapest route from 3x to 4x weekly with additional Sunday flight operating from December 7th to January 11th 2026.

Also the Leeds - Cluj Napoca route has increased October from 2x to 3x weekly with additional Wednesday flight operating from 1st to 15th.
It is also increasing from 2x to 3x weekly next summer 2026 season with additional Wednesday flight operating from April 1st to June 3rd & September 23rd to October 21st 2026.

Whilst we all know MOL is very good at "posturing" he has predicted that Wizz may not be around as an independent airline for that much longer, perhaps even being part of the Ryanair Group (regulatory approval permitting). So yes totally agree Wizz are an airline that Ryanair are clearly going after and also do indeed look to be winning the fight - at the moment! However less consumer choice is not a good thing.
Does any of this contradict what we hear about Wizz supposedly being happy at LBA as cutbacks seems to be greater than increases - again for the moment.
Could be an interesting on-going battle ahead

It's not just at LBA though. Wizz have been axing routes in various places and in some cases pulling bases too. Despite having quite a few new aircraft deliveries, they still have a large number grounded too. But I get the impression that to get them through a difficult time, they are concentrating their operations on routes with maximum profit. It can't be a coincidence that in Poland, they have axed several routes to LBA on which they had competition from Ryanair. Their loads don't seem to be the issue so it's presumably a yield/profit issue.

As for MOL and his doom and gloom forecasts, he said some years ago that Jet2 wouldn't survive. Not the best forecast I've heard.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
