The new channels are the 8.33kHz equivalents of the out-going 25kHz frequencies. You might find that you can still pick them up using a 25kHz receiver on the old frequencies, but no guarantees.

VHF only, UHF not affected.

It's progress but a slight personal nuisance for me as I don't own a single airband receiver with 8.33khz spacing ! I'm old school. Have the frequencies been published yet and will the UHF frequencies be affected ?

Intek and Uniden look like good value. The likes of Icom and Yaesu are beyond my means nowadays. I'm also the proud owner of a 1991 Signal R535 which I've had since new. I hope I can still get some use out of it.

I have been using a very reliable Yupiteru VT-125 up until now. Which I hear Yupiteru units are no longer in production.
It did cost me a fortune 20 odd years ago when I bought it brand new from Air Supply Shop in Yeadon.

Don't even know where to start looking now regards purchasing an new one. Amazon by any chance!?

I have a uniden 125-xlt, great little scanner, does the frequency step too. You will still hear the ATC transmission without having the steps but will not be the greates quality.

Many of the long-standing radio scanner suppliers have websites and are on eBay. Waters and Stanton is one.

Out of interest, why the need for the new channels?
Up until now, each frequency has been spaced from the adjacent frequencies by 25kHz.

With newer equipment, it’s possible to divide that into three and space them by 8.33kHz, trebling the number of available frequencies. This allows the demand for new frequencies to be met, and enables a greater ability to deconflict frequencies that are interfering with each other.

As far as LBA is concerned, there is no ‘need’ for the change, but it is the law that all ground stations that come under EASA have to change to 8.33kHz channels before the end of 2018.

So it’s not just Leeds, it’s everywhere.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
