I was once on one of the rear seat rows on a Dan Air 1-11 and i can certainly vouch for thatI used to like the 1-11’s coming and going they were very noisy
I could not imagine a pilot undershooting the runway, has this ever happened elsewhere, Only one that comes to mind is that asiana at san fran?Yes a good year when we had the 'proper' length of runway available without the politically correct displaced threshold which has had really restrictive consequences! (Less risk of undershooting some will argue - but a greater risk of running off t'other end!!
If they do, it's usually due to wind shear or a technical issue such as that experienced by the BA 777 at LHR caused by ice blocking fuel lines and resulting in a loss if thrust to both engines on finals, or the British Midland 737 400 at EMA that crashed in the M1 embankment after engine failure en route between LHR and BFS.I could not imagine a pilot undershooting the runway, has this ever happened elsewhere, Only one that comes to mind is that asiana at san fran?

Was having a think about the forum posts above i thought "what was the best period of time at LBA in terms of airline variety and aircraft type?" although not as busy as now id say between 1984 and 1990? I was only a little one at the time so dont remember too much, but does anyone have a specific year they feel is the winner? And what airlines and aircraft type were operating that year?
Now in 2022 we mainly just see B737s but with flybe, aer lingus and hopefully IPS which if happens would be great, then it should turn out more interesting than we thought. Ads move this post to the relevant one if needed.
I would say around 1986 was best. 747s, Tristars, the odd DC10, A300s, A310s, 727s, 737s, 707s, the occasional DC8, DC9s, 1-11s then all the regular turbo props and still the occasional Viscount.
Great times. Noisy times too! Loved it.
Spantax even flew in the odd Coronado on lieu of their usual very dirty 737 200s. Dave Simpson Travel used to charter Spantax for their Sunday flights to Malaga.hi marky 810
those were certainly very interesting days, the landings of spantax were interesting to say the least.

Convair CV990 Coronado EC-BZO was the surprise substitution for the regular Boeing 737-200 on 18 July 1986.Spantax even flew in the odd Coronado on lieu of their usual very dirty 737 200s. Dave Simpson Travel used to charter Spantax for their Sunday flights to Malaga.
