Thats surprising, they've kept saying September havent they? Doesnt give much time to get anything substantial done over the Winter. Lets hope it doesnt slip any further.

Various actions have been taken ready for it to start such as cordoning off a section of the car park and diverting underground cables. I don't know whether the start waiting on planning aspects or contractor's.

I assume the car park area that has long been blocked off with boards will be used for all the contractors.

It's a complex scheme. It's highly likely that the contractors have been interviewed at length before appointment and once they were, the programme of works they put forward will have been discussed to death and no doubt amended. It's one if those projects that simply has to go well and spending more time planning can save time later.

Re-planning of the Passenger Search Area, and modelling to demonstrate capacity to manage 6.8 MPPA in line with the DfT 2024 compliance requirements.

This is the heavily revised and updated extension, (phase 1) plus the complete reconfiguration and updating of the existing terminal (phase 2) plus additional aircraft stands (phase 3).

Dear LBA Support Group
I am writing to provide an exciting update on Leeds Bradford Airport.
Today, we are announcing over a £100m investment into a vital regeneration of the terminal facilities at LBA which will dramatically improve the experience of passengers travelling to and from Yorkshire and help unlock economic growth for the region. Please see a selection of CGIs attached to give you an idea of the look and feel of the project.
Approved by Leeds City Council, the work is set to commence in autumn 2023 and is expected to complete in 2026.
We’re proud to have served our region since 1931, and we believe that Leeds, Bradford and Yorkshire deserve an outstanding regional airport that meets the status and aspirations of its communities. This multi-million-pound investment into LBA will futureproof our airport for years to come and ensure it can continue to be a turbocharger for our region’s economy.
By 2030, the regeneration has the potential to create 1,500 new direct jobs at LBA and 4,000 new indirect jobs, as well as contribute a total of £940 million to the local economy.
As Yorkshire’s main commercial airport, we will ensure LBA meets the demand for flights in our region that is efficient, sustainable, and more enjoyable for passengers. Please find an infographic attached which provides an overview of what the regeneration will deliver for passengers and the region.
Since opening in 1968, LBA’s current terminal has had multiple small extensions but has remained largely the same. The regeneration will see a 9,500 sq. mt., three storey extension to the existing terminal, alongside a significant refurbishment of the current terminal building. Passengers will benefit from the creation of additional aircraft stands, more seating, faster security, new shops and eateries, and a larger baggage reclaim area and immigration hall, as well as improved access for passengers with restricted mobility.
The regeneration will also help LBA to further decarbonise its operations, as outlined in the airport’s 2030 Net Zero Carbon Roadmap, with the installation of new heating, lighting and machinery, including new baggage belts. With an upgraded LBA, we expect to see airlines investing in new destinations and deploying their newest, quietest and most efficient aircraft at the airport.
As I hope you will agree, this investment marks a hugely exciting opportunity for the region. The illustration looks slightly different to things I've seen before (a bit less ugly?).

Watched it. Good to see the escalator is featured in the video. Good to see work starts 'this Autumn' , however the airport have interpretted that!😁

Welcome news. I hope the plans include replacing or removing the illuminated signs on the terminal front. It simply says Leeds Bra d at the moment.

With wording like that on the sign you would expect the airport to be getting more support!!!

Disappointing as it is that we are clearly going to have 2 more summers of inconvenience and bursting at the seams, the end result is going to be well worth it. Let's hope we get a raft of new airline and route launches to coincide

A new sign / signage would be great, also be great for one to be airside for arriving passengers to see. Hopefully be big improvements from what we already have got.

Very impressive. I wonder how accurate these renders will be as there seems to be a great deal of space which, the pessimist in me, wonders how accurate they are. Sorry for that but I hope I am wrong. If true (fingers crossed) then all the disruption will be worth it eventually. Well done to the LBA team therefore in that case. Good signage will be essential.

Gobsmacked I am!

The 2pm news on BBC Radio Leeds just covered this story, including a really good verbal interlude from Vincent Hodder, and never mentioned the environment, or the Unmentionables, or the idiotic MPs, or anything negative at all! A first surely? Reporting an airport good news story as it is without the compulsory negative b******t .

Maybe they knew we would be watching. Maybe as I write this, there's a crisis meeting underway between the Unmentionables, the BBC, JSO, ER, that little madam from Sweden Greta Thunberg, and anyone else they can find, in a bid to provide a negative perspective..
