My first post on here.I have a Yupiteru MVT 7100 which must be about 15 years old.It has 5Khz step facility and has accepted the new frequency’s and all LBA stations are transmitted on them.

Before anyone goes out and buys a new scanner, wait until the change happens and see how your old kit does, you might be fine.

Despite the changed designators, the actual frequencies that LBA transmit on will be the same as they were before. E.g. - new channel number for Tower is 120.305, but the actual frequency being broadcast on will still be 120.300 MHz, just with a narrower ‘filter’. It may or may not be audible on a 25kHz scanner, or it might have poorer sound quality, or you might notice no difference.

However, even if it does still work ok, eventually the new 8.33kHz channels that will have been created either side of the LBA channels will be allocated to someone, and these might interfere if you are trying to listen on a 25kHz scanner.

Out of interest have the tower(120.3) been testing the new frequency recently as sometimes I have been getting a very weak signal and I live near Cookridge Tower, virtually overlooking the airport.
Delivery and Approach have been normal and loud.

I haven't noticed any change in signal strength on Tower but there is often some white noise masking Radar and a slightly weaker signal than Tower. Doesn't make sense. TX/RX hasn't been the same since 123.75 and 121.05 were replaced, along with the antennas on the tower roof.

yeah i noticed the same problem when 123.750 changed. I live in Pudsey with antenna in the loft and used to get very clear two way transmission. Now i can hardly hear anything when on the ground.

My Signal 535 so far copes ok with a 5khz offset and I think the Icom handheld will do likewise. I shall certainly wait until after next Thursday before replacing anything. It will also be interesting to hear if the ATIS is more forthright regarding ATC clearance from Delivery.

The new 8.33khz frequencies are up and running. A Linton Tucano has just been on asking for R/T checks on TWR, RAD and DIR. The changes don't appear to have been NOTAMed though. I'm sure there must be a reason; perhaps a NOTAM isn't necessary.

A Ryanair has also requested ATC clearance from Tower and has been redirected to Delivery. The revised ATIS instruction isn't getting through to everyone just yet !

By the way, I'm not noticing any significant difference in R/T reception so far.

Just to to be clear, there are NO new frequencies. The LBA frequencies are still the same as before, so Tower is still 120.3MHz, it's what it is called that has changed and the spacing from the next available channel. So Tower is now 'called' 120.305, to show that it is within a 8.33kHz channel and it is 8.33kHz from the next available channel.
No NOTAM as the details are published in the AIP.

A question for quik123 if I may ? How does the sound reach the Tower from the VHF receiver site. Copper wires, fibre optic or something else ? I promised a retired ATCO friend I'd try to find out so I hope you don't mind me asking. Send me a PM if you prefer (if you know the answer !).

Thankyou.

I've noticed over the last 24 hours that some pilots are still calling Tower for ATC clearance when the ATIS states that it should be obtained from Delivery. Yesterday it was KLM (as it so often is) and this morning it's Jet2. I don't know why this situation persists. Must be a right pain for the ATC staff if the message isn't getting through.

When I flew to PSA last week, we taxied along November, westwards, then backtracked 32. The FlyBe in front of us did the same. Anything wrong with Taxiway Delta?
We were delayed for 40 mins due to "ATC restrictions"

Any ideas why?

If you flew on 22 May your delay will very likely have been caused by the French ATC strikes.

For at least the last two hours the LBA ATIS has been reporting CAVOK. I don't know if this is a technical problem or human error but there is definitely significant cloud below 5000 ft. out there. Visibility is excellent, mind.

At today's Consultative Committee meeting, there was a presentation on the new Controlled Airspace proposals. I have yet to read the report provided, but what is being proposed is basically that the airspace allocated to LBA is englarged, which will then enable aircraft to make a continuous descent into LBA via published routings (saving fuel and reducing noise levels), whilst departing aircraft will be able to make a continuous climb to a higher level. The proposal also is that flight routings are spread out more, which will mean some areas having aircraft over-flying where it doesn't happen now, but - those aircraft are likely to fly a higher altitude so noise levels should be minimal. The proposals have already been subject to public comment and the final proposals are due to the CAA around November. The CAA have 16 weeks to review them, comment and (hopefully) sign them off and if all that goes well, the new procedures could start to be rolled out from the end of February 2019.

There appears to be some atmospheric influence at work this morning. Earlier on I could pick up Manchester Tower, Radar and Director on an Icom handheld with just a whip antenna. TX was faint but audible. On the flip side there is noticeable white noise on Leeds Tower, behind both ATC and aircraft TX. Radar doesn't seem to be as badly affected and Delivery is fine.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
