Easyjet have announced an expansion programme for summer 2012.
I wonder if LBA will get anything.

Has this been announced on any websites wawkrk? Do you have a link that you could possibly post on here, for more information?

It's sounds credible, as easyJet do have a fair few more aircraft to be delivered from Toulouse, so expansion into other UK airports that are currently underserved by easyJet, airports that come to mind; BHX, LBA and possibly EMA, sounds reasonable.

I think we may see more 'W' pattern routes however, as a base would just reveal a duplication of the routes currently operated from LBA, by Jet2, Ryanair and Thomas Cook to some extent. This is the last thing we need, in light of Lbaspotter's newest post on the Jet2.com Worldwide Forum Thread.....:

Hi Tom, here is the full article from UK airport news.
As you say though, if we get something it will be W legs.

EasyJet promises new routes for 2012 – that should please Stelios !
16.09.11

easyJet is planning to expand its network in 2012, with a host of new destinations targeting business travellers. This is unlikely to please founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who is currently involved in a bitter dispute with the airline's board over the speed of its expansion.

So far, the airline has over 300 destinations on sale for next summer, offering more than 110,000 flights. It has increased capacity to several cities including Barcelona, Alicante, Madrid and Rome. easyJet also has peak summer flights on sale for the first time from its new base at Southend Airport to eight destinations.

UK director Paul Simmons said: ‘We are adding even more choice in 2012 with the announcement of a host of new destinations from our UK bases in the coming weeks. Watch this space.’

Thanks Wawkrk.

The last part of the article sums up really that LBA will probably not be expecting many business routes, as it says "...a host of new destinations from our UK bases...". Unless LBA will turn to a base for easyJet then we probably won't be seeing a huge amount of routes from them, in terms of this article.

You can look at it from a different perspective though. It does increase the possibility of a LBA-London route, whether it's Luton, Stansted or Gatwick, of which the latter would be preferred. This would be a key business route for easyJet, it may even be used by people for onward connections.
A lot more people are doing this and are booking with lo-co's e.g. to London Gatwick, and then hopping onto a flight with Virgin. It is a cheap and cheerful start to their holiday, which is what a lot more people are wanting.

They'd most likely do a lot better than FlyBe did on the LGW route....

Isn't that an 'at your own risk' connection?

There is a risk but being sensible and allowing a reasonable time period in between flights is okay, perhaps time for a meal or snack etc before checking in again. I have done it many times from Edinburgh / Glasgow at Gatwick with no problems and 1000's also from here do the same even with a BA EDI - LGW as an alternative. So a LBA -LGW would have an appeal assuming times and prices are acceptable.

Whoshotjimmi, I was purely looking at it, by comparing the two airlines against each other.

I was also looking at the route on a basis of passengers travelling LGW-LBA-LGW not just LBA-LGW-LBA. This would be available through easyJet's huge network at London Gatwick. Not only is it easyJet's largest base, but they operate 90+ routes from there, compared with FlyBe's 10, give or take a few, routes.
EasyJet's dominance at London Gatwick lead me to believe that they would be a lot more suitable on the route from LBA and also that they would be able to make it work without having to base an aircraft at LBA, which pushed FlyBe's costs through the roof!

I think it's fair to say that easyJet have a lot more of a flexible fleet that FlyBe. FlyBe are still at the stage where they need to find huge growth, easyJet have already got that. I don't think that FlyBe's 57 seated aircraft was an ideal aircraft to operate on such a route either. FlyBe had onward connecting passengers through code-share agreements with; BMI, Virgin etc. but how many ordinary passengers knew this.....?

I think that easyJet would also have the ability to attract, not just business passengers but also leisure and onward connecting passengers.
We saw CMJ write that onward connections may be 'at your own risk', I personally would trust easyJet a lot more that FlyBe, if I were to meet another flight.

Hi

I see Easyjet Holidays are now advertising there French Alp's ski holidays on the Airports website home page. Prices quoted for 7 nights 3* self catering start from as low as £221 per person. I don't know if this includes the cost off return Easyjet flights from Leeds to Geneva as well.

It is worth noting that easyjet.com are due to recommence there 5x weekly ski service from Leeds to Geneva using Airbus 319 equipment on Thursday, December 15th. So its not long to wait until the clock work orange parade reappears.

Had a shock yesterday morning, received an email saying that they had cancelled my flight to Geneva next March, thought they had pulled all the flights. On further reading it was the outbound flight on Mar 23rd, Sunday return was OK, accomodation had been booked so I was in a bit of a pickle. Fortunately, I engaged brain and checked Jet2 and booked a flight on 23rd and asked easyJet for a refund.
Does anyone know why the flight has been cancelled on this particular date? All other dates (around the time) seem to be operating.

Easyjet re-start there Geneva-Leeds-Geneva winter operation's today using there fleet of Airbus A319's, It Look like G-EZAI will be the first to visit this winter EZY7346 service as she's currently crossing the English Channel heading towards Dover.

Hi all, just a little testimonial on EasyJet.

I booked flights for a friend of mine, who I haven't seen in a very long time, who has spent a year out in Geneva due to work commitments. I booked the flights for him when easyJet's schedule was just released and to my knowledge I was one of the first to book as the price was, at the time, just over half the price of what Jet2 were wanting. He booked the flight back, as obviously the 2012 schedule was not released a year ago and he still said that they were a lot cheaper than Jet2!

He has just returned and I went and met up with him last-night for a much needed catch-up! He isn't an aviation enthusiast and doesn't take a huge interest in flying but he did say that he was surprising impressed by the 'smoothness' of the whole easyJet operation at LBA. I told him they were new to LBA and to probably expect something to possibly go wrong with the operation with them being a 'new-comer' to the airport.

He told me completely the opposite in fact! He said that they were a pleasure to fly with, although it was a year since he last flew with them. He highly recommends them if anyone is considering flying with them from LBA!

It's good to hear something positive about Easyjet at LBA for a change. So far they have done little to inspire confidence with their schedule. Through absolutely no fault of LBA, the airline is more often than not delayed or cancelled. They are going to have to do much better from my point of view if they are to win over passenger confidence. From a completely personal point of view I feel Jet2's offering is far superior even if that's just for reliability. I would like to think that if Easyjet opened up a base at LBA they would offer a much better product.

Ive flown with them twice from LBA and both have been on time and considerably cheaper than jet2 would choose them over jet2 any day of the week.

When I lived in Befordshire I used Easy quite frequently for both pleasure and business and never found anything bad to say about them. I haven't been keeping track of their performance at LBIA so I was somewhat suprised to read they seem not to have been performing particularly well.

It doesn't however suprise me that their pricing beats Jet2 as I think Jet2 are far less competitive than they once were. I'm a regular and loyal Jet2 customer but would love Easy to expand from Leeds and provide more competition for Jet2 and the other lot whose name I won't mention.

It is great to hear something positive, like Aviador says easyJet have had a less than satisfactory start at LBA. Very much like Thomson, at the first hint of bad weather they cancel and very often are running late. I did have high expectations for easyJet but I think they will stick to the Geneva route only.

Servisair have got easyjet sorted very well, it is a very similar turnaround to Ryanair but easy allow for more staff so generally a much more efficient operation. Also considering easyjets loads are much less, typically just over 100, making it easily manageable. EasyJets passenger profile is much more business orientated and this means they generally charge less for a longer period of time but hike up the prices a few weeks to departure. Jet2 on average charge more, however not forgetting Jet2 have had a free ski carriage and buy one get one free bag offers most of the season, the flights when priced right to the end are not bad, they can be very competitive on the less popular flights, often significantly undercutting easyJet. However, as always it comes down to how full the flight is. Surely its good that the flights are expensive because that means they are near enough full.

Yep it normally does. Looking on the Easyjet website, it looks as if the Friday flight is going to recommence on the 30th March.

I wonder if they have dropped the friday flight for a few weeks because it is a quiter part of the season for them. But Jet2 are still operating the flight on fridays

I asked the question in December when I found out my flight had been cancelled on the 23rd. Have Jet2 upgraded their flight to a 757?

Good news Easyjet have just put there Geneva – Leeds ski route on sale for next winter 2012/2013 season.

The service recommences on Saturday, December 15th and currently runs until February 28th. Flights in March and April have not been released for sale yet and are expected to be on sale in a few weeks time. We do see the Monday and Thursday flights been reduced for 2 weeks in January guess due to low bookings as other airports are also seeing a reduction by Easyjet next winter.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
