Not sure how any airline can possibly plan to operate from an airport that isn't even open, with no given timeframes of when (if) it will open / who the operator even is. If the rumour has come from the DSA fan base, it will be fabricated, just like saying Virgin wanted to base there exclusively.. yeah ok..Rumours of them going to DSA v2
Don’t believe everything you read on Twitter/X.Rumours of them going to DSA v2
Do we know that ? The airport haven’t said anything publicly, or have I missed something ? I thought it was more a case of forum members speculating on how LBA might achieve its growth targets. We also know EasyJet are LBA’s main target operator for expansion after the terminal extension & regeneration is completed in 2026
Yes we do know that. LBASpotter, Aviador and myself have had meetings previously with LBA senior management in which it was made very clear that their target operators were Wizz and easyJet. One down, one to go.Do we know that ? The airport haven’t said anything publicly, or have I missed something ? I thought it was more a case of forum members speculating on how LBA might achieve its growth targets.
The more the merrier as the saying goes.If I’m be honest I think the EasyJet EU based beach fleet will be next to turn up at LBA. They will easily sellout flights to the PMI, ALC, AGP & FAO.
I also very much doubt DSA MkII will be taking pxs flight much before the LBA regen completes anyway. Add to the equation EZY tried DSA before and lasted all of 5 months before they pulled out.The full #REGEN might not be completed until 2026 but we will likely see a capacity increase by summer 2025.. The new arrivals facility and large spacious departure area needs to open prior to the closure of the current arrivals hall.
Not sure about MME. Suspect after July 4th their chief benefactor could be facing some stern questions about the airport and a number of other projects around Teesside!Other forums suggest LDY or EMA for the 22nd UK airport. be interesting to see how it plays out. MME could be in for a shout as they do scrap EZY AC there & they do base train there.
They say its going to cost millions just to get DSA operational again….no investor in their right minds would do that.Don’t believe everything you read on Twitter/X.
Am lead to believe a 22nd UK airport could be joining the easyJet network next summer 2025, that could be either EMA, CWL, NWI, LDY, MME or even HUY.
It won’t be DSA as it doesn’t even have airport operator in place yet and it’s not a certified operational airfield.
We also know EasyJet are LBA’s main target operator for expansion after the terminal extension & regeneration is completed in 2026.
It's the issue that I can't get my head around - as you suggest - who is going to spend huge amounts of cash on something that they do not own! Clearly a very significant subsidy with public money is going to be needed (and hopefully not wasted) but maybe some horse trading in respect of development land around the airport is a carrot that the Council will be dangling to attract an operator - although I have no idea of the mechanics of that either. However - who knows. They say its going to cost millions just to get DSA operational again….no investor in their right minds would do that.
You are correct! We seem to spend more time discussing DSA on the LBA threads than LBA itself. I personally have no issue with DSA reopening as I do not consider it a threat in any way to LBAs continued growth. I'm all for competition.
You have to remember the reason easyjet wouldn't base at LBA was because of the terminal capacity. So why would they go to MME.Hard to see how MME could ever sustain an easyJet operation without the airline being paid a hefty subsidy. It didn't work at DSA and it won't work at MME either IMHO.
Because they rack em and stack em….Why is the terminal capacity issue seemingly of no concern to LS and FR?
