Thank you for sharing these , I love them .

Did Caledonian ever come to LBA , I was crew with British Caledonian , we diverted once on the way to Newcastle , BAC 1-11 .

There is a colour photograph somewhere on the web of a British Caledonian 1-11 taxiing on to the apron but there were no regular services. Only Genair, which operated as BCal Commuter, gave a regular taste of British Caledonian at Leeds. Many years later we had the Saturday morning Caledonian Airways flights to Toronto but that company was little more than a rebranded British Airtours.

Also, there was a British Air Ferries Viscount painted in British Caledonian colours which frequently visited Leeds in connection with the BAF Jersey flights in the mid-eighties.

I am not sure if either of these were your aircraft 'ex_crew', but my records show that two British Caledonian One-Eleven 500s G-AWYU and G-AZPZ both made first visits on the same day, 09 December 1985. As far as I am aware, these were the only BCAL mainline aircraft to have visited LBA. Now to start digging for a Genair aircraft in BCAL livery ....

Bit before my time , I think , looking back it was Teeside , we had a nightmare trying to find rooms for the very unhappy passengers. I did divert once when with Air Europe , unfortunately not on the 747-200 we had on lease that year. Thanks for your " heads up " , I enjoy your photos . Just been having a chat with a couple of friends that were crew on the Tristar that over shot. Cant beat a bit of aviation nostalgia , your photos add to the experience . So thank you .

Genair originally operated as an Embraer Bandeirante commuter airline from Liverpool to Gatwick then opened up a second base at LBA with an E110 for a double daily LGW route. Genair was expanded with the acquisition of Casair at TeesSide and Eastern at Humberside and the addition of several Shorts 330 aircraft.

The first photo shows Shorts 330 G-OCAS operating MME-LBA-LGW and a few months later the second photo shows Shorts 360 G-BKZR on the same route. The latter aircraft was impounded at LBA in mid July 1984 when the airline encountered financial difficulties and ceased trading.

The memories go on ........

Nationair twice. Sorry. Stupid tablet.
Those are great photos. Have you not tried uploading them to the media section, it's so much easier and there's a dedicated LBA section for Nostalgia photos.

I've removed your double posting of the Nationair.

I never got a chance to see the DC 8 unfortunately so I'm so jealous!

Don't remember any Nationair crashes. There was an Arrow Air DC8 crash in Newfoundland in late 1985.

I came across this and wondered if anybody would know something :)

This looks like an Aeroflot TU154 charter on 12 May 1994 that was involved with a ship's crew change for a vessel docked at one of the Humber ports. RA85436 arrived as AFL3011 from Krasnodar in the Crimea and stayed for most of the day before returning the old crew back to Krasnodar as AFL3012. Two notable memories of this aircraft was a cabin aisle carpet that only stretched for two thirds of the cabin length, and some of the outbound passengers taking tumble driers as pieces of hold baggage!

I have photos of this aircraft on both its trips into LBA - which took place shortly after the end of the USSR. On its first trip into LBA it wore full Aeroflot titles. On its 2nd trip it had been re-branded with Baltic International titles. However, my recollection was that it operated to and from Riga - which fits with the Baltic International ownership.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
